That just about excludes me, then. And I don't think it's just because I have autism. The facility of communication that you describe is uncommon, I think. Not because people don't do it — they do — but because few of us are skilled enough at it to achieve what you describe?(2) I read somewhere once that if you can make a person laugh, you can make a person think. The ability to do the former however, is contingent upon one's ability to converse with others, effectively. How does one do that, you may ask...? Why, you can only do it with practice, practice, & yet more practice, that's how...because effective conversation isn't simply just an exchange of words: it also entails the ability to read & to comprehend body language, & to be sensitive to even the slightest of nuances in the tone & the voice of the person you're speaking with.

So you think it will happen more or less organically, Sy Borg? That no one has a conscious plan to control us all but that it will emerge as an outcome of the way humans, and the systems they are creating, work?I doubt there is an agenda to make this happen, other than the usual attempts of power players to control the masses. No, I think this new tribalism is a function f population and it's happening spontaneously. All the social, economic, political and environmental forces are dovetailing people into this sheeplike approach to life. I suppose, when times are tough, people tend to gather more in groups, partially through lack of choice, eg. cramped housing and partly, I suspect, a huddling urge.
So, then, you think that there is an agenda - perhaps unarticulated, but the usual human desire to control and dominate - this time by more effectively turning individuals into components of a larger body, components with less ability to down tools, speak their minds and break free?I'm sure there are many with conscious plans to control us in various ways. Dictator, theists, corporations, technocrats, advertisers, politicians ... and it's all aimed at turning individuals into cells of a larger body. All of these are part of the larger process.

OK. But can we please be careful of one thing? Let's not confuse the label, "Universe", with the idea of Holism (by whatever name we call it)? The label can and does embrace and describe everything that exists, everywhen. It does that for the mundane reason that we defined it to mean that. Holism, on the other hand, and as you know, is a more subtle thing...A prominent philosopher on this forum made a case for the Absolute, which seems to be similar to your idea of the universe as ultimate One Thing. I initially was aversive of the concept, but because of his case I decided to put it on my to do list.
Would you disagree?"Not everything can and should be defined, some things lie outside of our scope; which is what this feed is about. We cannot grasp all things with the logic and other tools which we presently hold. "
When the Universe is all there is to be considered (whatever a human might argue is 'contained' in that concept) then that Universe would be given to them as a totality.Forgive me if I misunderstand, but I can't quite grok the sudden and (apparently) unexplained final words of your sentence. Please can you clarify what they have to do with a holistic perspective? What will happen when people start to attempt to cling on to the idea of Absolute or ultimate One Thing, the idea that the world is given to them?
The 'ultimate' again... And a position of 'expectation' corresponding with it. It expresses, in my opinion, what Schopenhauer might have been about. But again, after user thrasymachus made a serious case for the concept Absolute, I have placed the concept on my to do list for serious consideration. For Schopenhauer, boredom has three forms. The first is when the world shows itself to the bored as lifeless, “dead”, colorless, and “dreary”. Nothing is attractive or interesting and everything is indifferent, detached, and distant. The second form of boredom is when the world shows itself to the bored as valueless, meaningless, and pointless. Schopenhauer says that these feelings of pointlessness, valuelessness, and pointlessness render existence itself burdensome.
Hence its life swings like a pendulum to and fro between pain and boredom, and these two are in fact its ultimate constituents.
