Re: If you were starting a Country!

August 14th, 2012, 10:11 pm

I would be more concerned about the culture than the government. The only way to have liberty is to manifest a culture where liberty is possible.

Re: Is incest wrong?

August 14th, 2012, 10:06 pm

http://www.livescience.com/2226-incest-taboo-nature.html It appears nature has programmed us to avoid incest. The first step in avoiding incest is making it necessary to have a male and female to reproduce, increasing the DNA pool. Dog breeders become aware of the problems that come up when dogs are...

Re: Looking for someone to participate in slow reading

I am in favor of slow reading. I kind of lost interest in this forum because of the rush through books.

Re: Is anyone as sick of being abused by idiots as i am?

April 4th, 2012, 12:44 pm

(quote not shown) This problem is dealt with here by objecting that name calling is ad hominem and therefore unreasoning. I am so glad that your English teacher is supportive. I would like to have you in my class especially since you have a voice for good clear delivery. One thing I have tried is to...

Re: What is the ideal form of Government?

April 4th, 2012, 12:04 pm

I read the first few post and there are many in this thread, so I am not sure if it was said democracy is not a forum of government. I don't think meritocracy is a forum of government either? It is Prussian military bureaucracy applied to citizens, so maybe in is a forum of government, but that foru...

Re: Self-Development as a Teen-- I Need Your Help, please

October 5th, 2011, 12:12 pm

Some of us begin asking meaningful questions even without special training by age 8. That is when the brain literally functions differently, making it possible to contemplate the big questions that a younger child can not, because the brain development just hasn't happened. However, don't set yourse...

Re: A happy button.

October 5th, 2011, 9:57 am

Cicero and Thomas Jefferson associated happiness with gaining knowledge. You speak of the sensation of pleasure and can not think of anyone saying this is the goal of life. Seeking only the sensation of pleasure, would indeed be equal to being a drug addict, and would not be the happiness of which C...

Re: "God" limited?

October 5th, 2011, 9:49 am

(quote not shown) Most people can be trusted? You must not be as old as I am. Most people aspire to being trustworthy, but cowardice and laziness make them gullible to denial, deception, delusion, wishful thinking, and rationalization. So, the serious liars out there use them as pawns to spread thei...

Re: All drugs should be legal

October 4th, 2011, 10:57 pm

Here is rational for you. The state of Oregon automatically takes children from parents who use meth, because it no longer questions that these children will be abused or neglected. It will happen. This determination comes after years of dealing with meth addiction, and observing what it does to hum...

Re: Eastern verses Western philosophy

October 4th, 2011, 2:24 pm

(quote not shown) If Marsians began posting I would ask that a separate forum be opened for studying and discussing Marsian philosophy. Such posters would be rare and we would have much to learn about them, before we could begin to understand their different point of view. If no effort were made to ...

Re: "God" limited?

October 4th, 2011, 10:33 am

(quote not shown) Yeah, that's what I thought. Why the 'opposition'? We perceive hamburgers and we perceive thoughts. They are both real features of Reality. There is nothing 'oppositional' as far as I can see. We 'perceive'. We don't perceive 'through'. We perceive that which it 'appears' that we p...

Re: "God" limited?

October 3rd, 2011, 11:53 am

(quote not shown) While I really like your explanation of the word "exist" I have a problem with the rest of your explanation. It is obvious we are not born all knowing. If there is a God who wants us to do better, why didn't he create us with the necessary information already in our brain...

Re: Is choosing not save someones life the same as killing t

October 1st, 2011, 9:30 pm

This link explains the legal grounds for charging someone with murder, if murder was not intended. http://www.nvo.com/beaulier/minnesotacriminallaws/ Homicide by neglect, can be failing to help someone, when a person can be held reasonable responsible for the welfare of another. This is especially t...

Re: "God" limited?

October 1st, 2011, 11:57 am

Nameless , I so enjoy your explanations. Belinda , thank you for making me aware of the difference between pantheism and theist. In studying biology, I became aware of the importance of separation. Without separation nothing exist except the one. However, that which is separate is still part of the...

Re: Spiritual Law

October 1st, 2011, 10:53 am

Thank you for replying, but I do not understand enough about philosophical ethics to understand what you said. When it comes to spiritual law that would be examining universals, and therefore would be true in any culture. Morale is the high spirited feeling we have when we believe we are doing the r...
