(quote not shown)Care to provide an example of a 'grown up' God? Or God for grown-ups? :p It should be noted that no contemporary mainstream religion (e.g. Catholicism, Islam) actually believes that God has human attributes. Divine Wrath is not human wrath experienced by God, Divine Love is not huma...

(quote not shown)I disagree. The so-called 'problem of induction' is a relic of 18th century empiricism, a confusion. I find it characteristic that people started 'solving' the problem and justfying induction without providing any definition of clarification of what it is. (quote not shown)I contend...

(quote not shown) (quote not shown)I support the premise, but am reluctant to agree with the conclusion. I suggest that if we delve deeper into the religious traditions we find that they allow to achieve reconcillation with the finite nature of our existance in a slightly different way. Promise of l...

(quote not shown) Unfortunately, my view diverges here. You know...Love is madness, cruel, beyond good and evil, etc. I'll a bit go offtopic here, but when did the concept of 'Love' became so prominent in modern spirituality. I don't believe that non-contemporary Taoists, Buddhists, Judaists placed ...

(quote not shown)A lot of people, me included, somehow manage to soothe their angsts without resorting to superstition . Why then is this concept necessary ? It is easy to grasp and cling to, comfortable - yes; but in no way necessary! Unless you want to condescendingly claim that atheism can only w...

That sounds utopian. What will you when someone refuses to be tolerant? And how much should we tolerate? Can I go outside completely naked? Will this be tolerated? Can I go singing songs about Jesus-Buddha homosexual relations? What about engaging in a consensual group sex with 14 year old twin girl...

Re: Meaning?

(quote not shown)What is meaning of life is a more pertinent question, I think. What does this phrase mean? How did you even learn it? When did you first use it? When did you first thought about it seriously? Pondering such questions can be revealing. (quote not shown)Why merely ?(quote not shown)Bu...

I am leaning heavily towards Wittgensteinian formalism and I really don't think that [0],[1],&c refer to parts, objects or whatever. I hope you understand that from my perspective your ideas are not particulary interesting to me. Also, it is of no consequence how you designate the empty set, [0]...

(quote not shown)Ok (quote not shown)But why would anyone accept such 'if'? Perception is perception, usually perception of reality. In fact, I would say that it contradicts your previous statement: if we do not have the same perception, and perception is reality (although it's not clear what this m...

I received a degree in mathematics and nothing I had been learning for N years resembles Antone's musings. It is philosophy, not mathematics. If you want a mathematical answer - I have never heard of a reciprocal fracton rule, so I don't really know what would constitute a violation. Long answer: Pe...

That reminds me of The Nameless God of negative (also called apophatic) theology. God beyond Being. To say that He exists is idolatry, but so is to say that He doesn't. All words fail to name Him for He, who dwells in the shadows, is the Ineffable One. Existentialism involves surrender and total acc...

Really, "I am imperfect" just means that there are things more perfect that me. And in no way does that entail an existance of The Most Perfect Perfection. Number 5 is less than number 7, but there is no largest number. :? Likewise, "more perfect" can be understood as a binary re...

For any two human beings you can find an attribute in which they differ. So, technically, we are all unique.

But is this a useful observation? Everything is unique in this sense.

I'd rather make informed, useful and contextual distinctions and groupings.

If someone strikes your foot with a hammer - how fluid is THAT? I heartily subscribe to an intersubjectivist outlook on knowledge, but there is a danger to miss the background on which intersubjective interactions operate - reality. With regards to the proposed hypothetical. If A and B offer conflic...
