Re: I'm a Theist, Please Challenge Me!

(quote not shown) Yes, this would be one rational response. If we conclude we are unable to answer the question, we may choose to set aside the question. Which if you don't mind, I will point out you have not done. (quote not shown) So, you don't actually agree we are ignorant. You think you know th...

(quote not shown) This viewpoint has as it's foundation the assumption that a god would be bound by the laws of human reason. Is such an assumption justifiable? Where is the evidence for such an assumption? God as usually defined would have created humans, reason, the laws of physics and so on. Why ...

Re: Why does nature act the way it does?

To be fair, and give a guy a break.... Natural selection does indeed explain the mechanics of how life develops and changes etc. However, the original question/point was.... (quote not shown) His question is not really answered by explaining the details of natural selection. Natural selection explai...

Typist is indeed a male God. :D (quote not shown) Nor has their been a single argument or piece of evidence posted that demonstrates that human arguments and evidence are in any way qualified to address the god question. If we want theists to question their authorities, we can best make that case by...

This conversation is rapidly descending in to ever deeper levels of absurdity. (quote not shown) Here's a translation in to common sense every day language. God can not really be described, and our description of God is that he can not really be described. Such statements are arguments unto themselv...

(quote not shown) As usual, this is a lie. This whole post is a lead up to a religious question, not an intellectual one. Here's the punch line, the last sentence of the post. (quote not shown) Again, you are trying to sell your religion, by pretending you are here to do philosophy. This was a cleve...

(quote not shown) 1) Both sides are asserting a position. a) The theist asserts various positions they have derived from the authority they have given to holy books and/or personal experience. b) The atheist asserts various positions they have derived from the authority they have given to human reas...

(quote not shown) Ok, gotcha. I agree we have this understanding. Why would a God who according to most definitions would have created the laws of physics, be bound by those laws? How do we demonstrate the relevance of our understandings to the question at hand, gods? (quote not shown) Except that, ...

Re: I'm a Theist, Please Challenge Me!

You make some good points Scott. Yes, Theist does seem to wish to claim reason as his method as well, at least in part. Fair enough. And so I hereby extend my challenge to anybody, theist, atheist or other, who is basing their analysis of the god question upon reason, to any degree. You still haven'...

So what do you know then?

Re: I'm a Theist, Please Challenge Me!

January 26th, 2012, 6:53 pm

(quote not shown) Theist is probably not really required to provide evidence, because typically the foundation of a theist's belief is faith, a system which does not require evidence. If faith is the source of his belief, then he can be loyal to his chosen system without providing evidence. You have...

What are the pros of rape and murder please?

Ted Bundy was a famous serial killer here in the U.S. He killed something like 50 young women before being caught. Sorry, I realize this reference might not be obvious world wide.

Re: How would the world differed if Hitler had never existed

(quote not shown) Should we have a debate with Ted Bundy to discuss the pros and cons of rape and murder? Should we invite child molesters on to the forum and discuss the pros and cons of child molestation? If we wouldn't welcome Hitler on the forum, why welcome one of his brown shirt propagandists?

Re: How would the world differed if Hitler had never existed

(quote not shown) For the record, just to be completely clear, I am NOT suggesting physical violence. Only rhetorical violence. To be specific, if Theist keeps posting the Nazi propaganda, I'm asking us to not debate his points, but to instead make it clear he's not welcome here. That's my proposal....
