Re: What is Art?

April 8th, 2012, 4:33 am

(quote not shown) Meditation is a form of "inner exploration." Is meditation art? The lessons you get from meditation, yes. That's how lots of poems are made. This is innaccurate. Art can be about self-exploration; but it doesn't have to be -- and although I'm sure you won't admit it, you ...

That is the best definition. Everything that came out of your inner exploration is considered art. A sound that was just copied from others for example isn't art, but a song that you heard from your inner exploration, this is definitely art.

Re: What happens to us when we die?

April 5th, 2012, 3:55 pm

(quote not shown) So many could happen. Here's some possible ideas: 1. You disappear forever because spirit never existed. 2. You go to Heaven/Hell 3. Your mind disconnects from the "collective mind" as to say that you got offline from the world. Once offline, you are on your own world and...

Re: I'm an atheist - but sometimes I pray

April 5th, 2012, 3:38 pm

For atheists that pray: consider why you're being an atheist and still praying. Why would you pray if you don't believe? Are you just trying to play hard with a god just to piss him off? Are you being atheist just because is cool? Are you being atheist for peer pressure because its dumb to talk abou...

Re: Can we create consciousness?

April 5th, 2012, 3:32 pm

I'd say that you can simulate emotions and consciousness, but it would never have the complexity of human love. The machine would be always cold, no matter how much you try to make it caring and warm.

Re: Is abortion wrong?

April 5th, 2012, 3:30 pm

Is abortion wrong? Maybe, we don't know. Should it be prevented by law? Definitely not. People have free will. If they want to abort, let them abort. It isn't something that I would do, but it's not something I would stop.

For those religious people, if god wants to stop it, then let himself do it.

Re: Can you pre-select your thoughts?

April 5th, 2012, 3:26 pm

(quote not shown) Definitely possible if you make them flow like a wind without stopping them. Because if you stop their manifestation, you will be curious to know what that thought was all about and then, it won't even be pre-selected anymore. But if it flows like the wind, it crosses your mind wit...

Re: Love

April 5th, 2012, 3:12 pm

(quote not shown) I think people misuse the word "love" all the time. What's the difference of love and passion? love and infatuation? love and instinct to preserve the specie? love and desire? love and sexual attraction? Love, as its most pure form, might answer this question better than ...

Re: Ghosts

April 5th, 2012, 3:07 pm

(quote not shown) For all those stating "there are no ghosts" are acting exactly those who say "yes, there ARE ghosts!" To be skeptical isn't the same as pretending ghosts can never exist. All my friends who played with a wigi board said there's no way for ghosts not to exist lol...

Re: Does anyone know the truth?

Just one thing to say: If you assume you don't know the truth, then you're already one step further than those who think they know the truth.

Re: How To Have Productive Philosophical Conversations

April 5th, 2012, 2:56 pm

It's good to do the "sandwich" strategy. If you want to criticize, you first say a compliment, you say "but" and criticize, and then you finish the sandwich with another nice thing. :)
