Re: Greed, what is it?

May 10th, 2012, 6:55 am

(quote not shown) I haven't have much time on my hands, but I feel like I owe a reply. (so, sorry for the wait) Before we can actually discuss whether greed is evil or not, or has an impact that is positive on society or not. We will have to actually define it. I don't believe in something called ev...

Grendel wrote:Why would a generalisation have only one answer? The thing about a generalisation is anyone can see it anyway.

Oh? So in other words you agree with me ? Well ok then your statement could easily be misunderstood.

Grendel wrote:The ends justify the mean?

I could think of hundreds of examples where they do and hundreds of examples of where they don't.

The problem is the statement is a generalisation.

I would like to see you think of one single reason that only has one answer. That is within the reality of this matter.

What you pose is an impossible question, the end never justifies the means, but the means never justify the end either. It is a question that you cannot answer simply because it varies. No matter how much you know of it, you will only be taking one side of the matter, and others will take the other....

Re: Do political commercials prove democracy does not work?

April 29th, 2012, 9:39 am

You might want to give it a thought, if a required vote is really a good idea. It may cause people to vote and inform themselves, but will they inform themselves enough? In Denmark there is sure a lot of people really into politics, but the amount that actually knows what is best for the country is ...

Re: Can you pre-select your thoughts?

April 29th, 2012, 4:00 am

(quote not shown) It isn't, it is totally caused. There is 'no' randomness in a dice roll, only perceived randomness. It's result is determined by physics (cause and effect). We sometimes refer to the roll of dice as random, only because it 'appears' to be random (way too many variables for us to kn...

(quote not shown) To me, random means -- to occur without cause. Predictability of (perceived) random events is accomplished by probabilities. How is a roll with a dice without cause ? Please you must be able to define it better than that? (or at least explain why it would make sense) the second bit...

(quote not shown) (quote not shown) This can all be connected to greed. How? (quote not shown)Crow I’ll have to take your word for that, in which case you’ve thrown a simian clamp into my OP. You’ll have to agree however it better explains to the Intuition the peculiarities a moving clock seems to undergo In the way I see the theory, it makes perfect sense, but the question ...

@Misty you could try starting a new thread on the question of greed, and if there is anything good on it. (if there isn't such a thread already)

But yes irrelevant to the topic, and I'm sure I'm not the only one who would like to discuss that subject.

@RJG I think your generally confused about what random would be in your world, if a word loses its meaning, it won't necessarily disappear it would just achieve a new meaning. So random meaning, something that happens in an unpredictable way without anything before ever affecting it. Now means, some...

heheh, I actually think I can find one thing considered ture evil then, the continued complete annihilation of matter, were the beings do it are learning nothing from it, doing it for no purpose at all, and not targeting anything in a specific. Hmm, no wait that is still not true evil :(, by that de...
