(quote not shown) Interesting point. Although your argument makes sense I still don't believe any of the three assumptions. 1) Death is proof of God's compassion, in my opinion anyway 2) I don't think God "abandoned" the universe, but rather he is not exerting his power and control over it...

philoreaderguy wrote:If there can be one god, can there be more? How can you know that there is only one god? It seems you can know that there can't be any gods, because it's impossible; or you can know that there can be (or is) at least one god. How can you specify the number of gods?

I never thought about this, really. That's probably just because of the fact that I myself only believe in one God, but I know some of my Indian (read: Hindu) friends from high school believe in multiple Gods. I'll have to ask them about that kind of thing sometime.

Love broke me down pretty badly a few months ago when what I thought was the love of my life and the girl of dreams shattered the heart that I never thought I had. So I've pretty much given up on "finding love" for a while. Love is great while you have it; not a better feeling in the world...

I am nothing huh? Sweet, sounds like how I feel sometimes as it is haha...I'll have to look into this, uh, branch of philosophy. Any recommendations of where I should start? Like, books or anything?

I think I'm just going to make a minor out of philosophy and major in psychology. The two fields are quite closely related and should compliment each other very, very well. I said before (on a different topic I think?) that the only reason I'm not majoring in philosophy is because of the lack of job...

(quote not shown) Obviously we DO in fact exist otherwise we'd be unable to ask the question as to whether we exist or not. However as for proof that we exist, I don't know that we'll ever really prove it. Descartes was right on with the whole "I think therefore I am" thing. That's about a...

What makes an action immoral is human judgement of the action (or, for the religious folk- God's judgement of the action). Until someone actually decided to label a particular action is moral or immoral, it was nothing more than an action. Somewhere along the line, people started being concerned wit...

I don't know why God should (if there is one, and personally I think there is) feel he has to prove anything to us. If there is a God and he made us, I can't imagine what would make him feel like he had anything to prove. Unless there's a God who, in essence, hasn't done anything at all. Damn I'm ru...

Yeah I wouldn't doubt that religion is the number one reason given for the act of murder. Religion itself isn't "responsible" for murder though. Religion doesn't kill people, people kill people seemingly for the sake of religion. Religions (generally) don't instruct their followers to kill...

(quote not shown) What country is that? Most country's used to be slave-states where the majority of people had no say in government. His country is the U.S. The "(like my country used to be)" implies that he's kinda pissed about the way our country is operating at the present time. Not sa...

(quote not shown) That's a good point. I never really looked at whatever it is that I'm testing in terms of making it more specific so that it passes the tests. Our professor was more about generalized, broad maxims. Then again, maybe I was only paying half-attention or something as well. Perhaps I'...

(quote not shown) I love those 20Q ball things. They're pretty nifty I have to say. It's pretty sad that one of my most proud moments with a 20Q ball is when I stumped it while thinking of "rifle" and its first guess was "shotgun" ha ha. That's right you question-asking ball, you...

Aw man, I don't know anything about existentialism. Not a thing at all. We haven't really covered it in my "meaning of human existence" class yet (it is on the syllabus, however) but I've been awaiting the opportunity to learn about it. I could always just research it myself but 1) I don't...

I would rather die trying to be free, then live as a slave.

What about someone else's liberty? Or just your own?
