Women Philosophers: Do they exist?

Use this philosophy forum to discuss and debate general philosophy topics that don't fit into one of the other categories.

This forum is NOT for factual, informational or scientific questions about philosophy (e.g. "What year was Socrates born?"). Those kind of questions can be asked in the off-topic section.

Funny question, Theo. Does man philosopher = masculism?

If you're a philosopher you are interested in everything and gender relations is just one thing. That's my take on it.

I don't know if "too many to mention" philosophical assertions have been disproved. To me it looks more like they are generally of a kind which are not to be proven or disproven, and have yielded many interesting results (logic, categories, investigation of questions of "duality" of all kinds themselves, which still figure in some shape or form in language, consciousness etc.) and that their intersections with science in things like evolution and physics are largely unproblematic or parallel, and that a lot of philosophical inquiry has gone into branches of science and constitute a backbone of them and what we now deem "common sense". I also think it's a misconception to suggest that the question of god is a primary factor in a lot of philosoph, which I think was generally considered unphilosophical or at least skeptically since Socrates.

The toughest intellectual disciplines include very few, if any women. They simply aren' t interested.

Hey Dumbass (nice to be able to do that without a mod warning :)), You might enjoy this graph.

There are some hard sciences where women are receiving more PhDs than men, such as neuroscience and molecular biology. Men dominate the "what is the nature of reality?" disciplines, apart from psychology, where the roles are reversed.

If I had to make a generalisation, I would say women philosophers are most concerned with language philosophy, as they are very present in the humanities in general. Also as it pertains to our "cognitive apparatus", which is still mostly largely led and ordered by philosophy or philosophical debate (you also won't find general psychologcy uninfluenced by philosophy, and philosophy is still a good corrective in neuroscience). Besides, the topic of "hard science" and philosophy is not a simple one, never has been, and has determined a lot of philosophy itself (and as I mentioned before, influenced science in direct or indirect ways). I'll randomly throw this out there:
