Re: Satisfaction with self
Perfect topic to illustrate the difference between the ends and the means. Those who are ends driven are vulnerable to never reaching the unattainable goal (perfection in your example), whereas those who are means driven don't care about how close (or not close) they ever get to the goal since for them it is all about the journey. Why would such a person kill themselves? Doesn't make sense.Ranaabdulsamad wrote:In a video on youtube , I heard this dude talk about how one of the reasons for suicide is that people are not satisfied with themselves which made me think is anyone ever satisfied , Abraham Maslow has this whole pyramid where he discuss all the needs that need to be fulfilled , which I do not think is right. The question here is that the chase for a better self is like a chase for perfection ( think of it as utopia) , its a chase that does not end well. Movies like black swan discuss a similar theme , Natalie Portman's descend into madness because she wants to be better at ballet . If one decides to sit down and be satisfied is the person giving up , that declares him/her as weak. So anyone ever satisfied or do we live in this status quo of anxiety and illusion of satisfaction , momentary satisfaction if you will .

Suicide is a way out of pain, emotional, moral or physical. Can dissatisfaction with the self be painful enough for one to want to end his or her life? Well, maybe. Keith Emerson for one was such a person, I surmise.
