Science does not deal in speculation. It forms hypotheses based on available evidence.
Very interesting - I just looked up the definition of hypothesis:
"a supposition or proposed explanation made on the basis of limited evidence as a starting point for further investigation."
Now I am just speculating, but hypothesis sounds like speculation to me.
Well, I think it is going to be fruitless to get bogged down in semantics because it will lead nowhere. Suffice to say it is a road to nowhere to take the position that everything is basically speculation since it is like debating whether the glass is half empty or half full. Do I exist? If yes, is that just speculation? To speculate based on nothing but uninformed opinions is not the same as making proposed explanations based on information, even if such information is necessarily incomplete.
People used to speculate about the planets, stars, galaxies and so on and then did scientific experiments in order to gather information. Now do you see what I mean?
Let us say science eventually managed to present a very accurate picture of what occurred at the BB. What then? Even such information would not give us much idea about what happened before that, if indeed there was a before. So it is all a matter of perspective.
I think we need to move on.
