Limits of rule reduction of philosophy

Use this philosophy forum to discuss and debate general philosophy topics that don't fit into one of the other categories.

This forum is NOT for factual, informational or scientific questions about philosophy (e.g. "What year was Socrates born?"). Those kind of questions can be asked in the off-topic section.

Limits of rule reduction of philosophy

Post by SimpleGuy »

How strong can one reduce philosophical ethical views to a minimal set but stay for all other philosophers still an intellgent conversational partner. Is it possible to reduce metaphysical terminology to simple rules like in karate , the 20 rules of gichin funakoshi and still have a vast metaphysical horizon. How far does one limit the possible logical ways to think by restriction to the most simple philosophy that is possible. Is there a criterion for having a philosophy that is worth to be called a philosophy. Is there some kind of "Quotient term algebra" to a philosophical question is the sense of theoretical computer science or not . How far is your thinking influence by a philosophy and even guided and is it impossible then to infer certain questions. Which philosophical direction is the smallest still capable to depict all other philosophies ?

You need to define 'what is philosophy'.

I view Philosophy-proper as one of the most inherent and fundamental human drive with its skill set using knowledge to optimize [within constraints] the well-being of the individual and therefrom the collective. In this case, philosophy-proper is reduced to an inherent and fundamental human drive.

Philosophy-proper will access all fields of knowledge necessary to achieve its purpose.

I presume you are referring to one class of knowledge and theories that is typically understood as 'philosophy' i.e. Western or Eastern philosophies with its various subsets like Analytical Philosophy, Phenomenology, Ethics, Logic, metaphysics, etc.. Such philosophies are reduced to the Framework, basic principles, definition, assumptions, limitations, founders, etc. that sustain their validity.

For example, Philosophical Realism claims there is an external world out there that is absolutely independent of the subject. This is its basic principle [actually assumption] otherwise it is not Philosophical Realism.
Not-a-theist. Religion is a critical necessity for humanity now, but not the FUTURE.
