BTW do you consider premature ejaculation a problem?
I know this question was not directed to me but my guess is that kathyd would not. If he can’t be prevented from masturbating the next best thing is for her son to get it over with as quickly as possible. She also said:
… at least he will not be able to give his partner the kind of toe curling o’s that an uncut guy could.
As if that were a good thing.

Not so much. It reduces the risk of penile cancer (admittedly a modest amount for an uncommon problem), as well as the better known improvement in the prevention of acquisition of the AIDS virus, among other very minor issues. You are aware that despite instruction, many don't perform adequate hygiene, right?
I am aware of the problem that many men don't wash under their foreskins and of the cancer risk to men and their partners of not doing so. Also of how nooks and crannies of skin preserve and multiply germs in stale excretions. But surgical intervention is a drastic remedy compared with learning basic care of the skin, plus provision of adequate washing facilities for the millions who lack them.
"Drastic" obviously to you (and many others), but many more disagree. It is a matter of opinion.

.

How many boys are cut for a religious ritual? I disapprove of ritual cutting. Hygiene reasons are spurious , as washing is more hygienic than cutting.

I am surprised that cutting bits off little boys is not against the law in Oregon. I'd be surprised that people mutilating little boys are not thrown into prison in Oregon.

If it's in your moral code that excising children's foreskins is acceptable for other than gravest medical reasons then your moral code is disgusting.

I guess you are serious!

An adult may chop bits off herself if she or he wants to do so. It's wrong to chop bits off children and babies who cannot give consent.

The idea of making little boys or girls and little babies bleed and experience pain and terror for some damn religious ritual disgusts me and should disgust you too. .

Here is a nice little story about circumcision from Genesis:

Jacob’s daughter Dinah is raped by Shechem, the son of the ruler of the land they had settled in. He falls in love with her and asks to marry her. Jacob’s sons agreed on one condition, Shechem and all the men of the city must be circumcised. They agreed and three days later while the men were still recuperating two of Jacob’s sons attacked the city, killing every male.

Sorry I thought we were only taking about male circumciscion. Can I repeat myself? What is the harm? I understand you don't like it but for me in a list of harm's people perform on each other I can think of many many many worse things. Not that we shouldn't aim to rid all harm from this world. Just that I try to use proportion.

But permanently deforming a baby or young child in mind or body is different in kind from harming other adults. You should stop trying to veil this important topic and the obscenities posted by the originator of it, obscenities that the originator so coldly specifies that some of us are wondering if she is a real person.

Deform means to change the shape of something. But it has negative connotations. If I used the term deform I would be implying lose of function. For example I would say I cut my nails not I deformed my nails.
According to Wikipedia 75% of adult males in the USA are circumsiced. So what has been the effect?
Please note I am not saying no harm is ever done. I am simply asking for proportion. For example their is difference between breaking a toe and stubbing a toe.

Oh and by the way Belindi I believe I was the first to post that taking kathyd's word for it was unnecessary. Though probably not the first to think it.

It was just meant to be an (in my opinion) amusing and interesting aside. It may be nothing more than a story of a novel and clever means of revenge, but given the importance of circumcision to Judaism I suspect there is something more going on. Circumcision has never been simple about the procedure.

You say: “what’s the harm?” I do not think the harm is all that great, but I do not think that addresses the question of why it should be done in the first place.

F4 I would suspect the number one reason for circumcising was because everyone else you indentify with is doing it. That's the number one reason for most things in my experience.
Just to be clear, as I said previously, no one should get their child circumcised, especially an older child. But if they do decide to do so then I don't equate it to mutilation because to do so would require harm.
Also I would be slightly less holier than thou.

Okay Eduk lets call it mutilation. Some nasty people mutilate dogs to make them look fashionable. Other nasty people mutilate kids to make them into Jews, Muslims, and non-masturbating Christians.
