Down syndrome and abortion

Use this philosophy forum to discuss and debate general philosophy topics that don't fit into one of the other categories.

This forum is NOT for factual, informational or scientific questions about philosophy (e.g. "What year was Socrates born?"). Those kind of questions can be asked in the off-topic section.

I suppose that the way out of this mess is for the rabble to realize that just because it is written on the Internet doesn't make something true. Problem is that when an algorithm is constantly feeding you info that kind of goes with what you already believe, it is easy to just keep believing in it and to suspend your critical thinking abilities.

It is this computer driven informational isolation, that I have not been able to identify a solution for, which makes me pessimistic in this area.

Then again, education cuts have ensured that society's "drones" and "chattel" will be ever more limited, and thus be less capable of being politically inconvenient. Usually a society would benefit from the investment into public education but with jobs rapidly being replaced by automation, a smart and informed populace is not needed. However, one thing that was perhaps not considered by "conservatives" against the funding of public education is that the less educated will be more politically convenient, but they tend to be more prone to violence. The inevitable upshot of the dumbing down of the masses is a schism that will tend towards violence and civil strife as increasing numbers of people feel they have nothing to lose.

Yes, the beauty of the American (specifically) economic system is that the illusion of upward mobility soothed the lower echelons such that they were pretty passive about the gigantic shift of wealth to the very tippity top of the pyramid. Thus why the bait and switch technique of social conservatism for income inequality is the most successful con of modern times. Getting poor folks to enthusiastically vote for a shift of wealth to the 1% (who by definition have 1% of the votes in any election) is brilliant, really brilliant work.

It would not be possible without Murdoch softening up the public psyche for over 60 years. In hindsight, disregarding journalistic standards, only "enforced" by stigma from within, always presented an opportunity for the unscrupulous to exploit, so if it wasn't Murdoch it would have been another. How to ensure honesty in journalism and to filter for high standards without restricting freedom of speech, or just as importantly, not being seen as so? A wicked problem?
