Art or Science?

Use this philosophy forum to discuss and debate general philosophy topics that don't fit into one of the other categories.

This forum is NOT for factual, informational or scientific questions about philosophy (e.g. "What year was Socrates born?"). Those kind of questions can be asked in the off-topic section.

When you look at the bank accounts and subsequent lives of the imaginations that came up with both, perhaps one can take them more seriously than one can take you?
Sarcasm is far from a philosophical refutation!

Jan Sand wrote: March 9th, 2018, 2:15 am If nothing else, attempting to psychoanalyze a mythical being to make sense of actuality is something of an ego trip. Start smaller and then advance to larger possibilities. Try psychoanalyzing the average sympathies a spider might have for an entrapped fly and move on from there.
What does this even mean? What is your point? What are you attempting to, somehow refute?

Language is a rather clumsy way to express all the possibilities of thought which has many alternative possibilities.

To make sense of fictional entities many efforts attempt to presume they are not fictional and attempt to deal with them as if they were functional presences in the actual universe. God does not exist for me in my understanding of actuality as does not Mickey Mouse so respect or other emotions towards them are not functional. For me, belief in a god is in the same order as belief in fairies or dragons or black magic. I see it as a form of insanity and that many millions of people do believe in these fictions only confirms that multitudes of humans are somewhat insane. The horrors of the latest version of human civilization wherein the planet that can support life is rapidly becoming destructive of most major life forms out of human activity no longer makes any sense to me at all. I am terribly sorry but human delusions have reached a point at which I can no longer discover within myself any sympathies for current civilization. That is my point.

Everyone is insane Jan. It's just the degree that changes.

Well, I am not suicidally insane. That's a rather important difference.

"Schizophrenia; the fragmentation of that which is One!"
Thought/duality is what fragments and creates 'contrast' that 'this' can be distinguished from 'that'.
The Reality is One!
It is easy to fragment, to define, to distinguish, to discriminate, to limit... that is why we are here, that the Universe/God/Self can be Self Aware!
But Reality is not fragmented as we perceive it to be. To 'believe' in the fragmentation is insanity!
Drawing distinctions are done all the time, everyone does it.

But;
"The Tao is the leveler of all things!"
The 'Middle Way' is equidistant from all Perspectives, the 'chrono-synclastic infundibulum', where all 'apparent' opposites/distinctions are resolved;

"Every kind of partial and transitory disequilibrium must perforce contribute towards the great equilibrium of the whole.." - Rene' Guenon

Science examines fragments, then fragments the fragments to examine! (Doing it's part that ALL is Known!)
Enlightenment/unconditional Love assimilates all apparent 'fragments' into the One! (Knowing All! *__- )
I love this perspective. I think it's an excellent example of how limiting words can be when one comes upon the realization of "oneness"/unity.

I seriously wonder what is so revealing about unity. If something is totally unified it is impenetrable for understanding since it has no distinguishable sub-units. Comprehension is derived with the realization that sub-units interact in useful and distinguishable parts. This is where knowledge lies.

True! So, enter the 'tool' of duality/thought to provide those 'sub-units'!
Comprehension is derived with the realization that sub-units interact in useful and distinguishable parts. This is where knowledge lies.
You are correct, that without the ego/thought/duality... "schizophrenia" (if you believe it)... not anything is perceivable, not anything exists to be perceived/experienced.
Experience, Here! Now! is Knowledge.
It is the duality that offers the 'illusion' of contrast, the illusion of 'things' and their 'separateness', their conditional context; the illusion of 'sub-units' and 'distinguishable parts'. that ALL is Known.
The separateness/context is an appearance only, that Self! may be Known/experienced.
Reality is One.

All Love is Self! Love!
All hate is Self! hate!
All judgment is Self! judgment!
Etc...

The non-schizophrenic Know this, and do not predate on ('Self!'), other creatures/environment.
No one ever deliberately harms another unless he hosts 'beliefs'.
