What's the meaning of life?

Use this philosophy forum to discuss and debate general philosophy topics that don't fit into one of the other categories.

This forum is NOT for factual, informational or scientific questions about philosophy (e.g. "What year was Socrates born?"). Those kind of questions can be asked in the off-topic section.

A: Since all we know is the life we are living now (and even then there are reservations), the meaning is in how we live it. If not for ourselves then for others. No life, no matter how brief, is without purpose.

Meaning of life is something that you must find yourself. But, the reality is that there is no meaning of life, if you don't make your life meaningful, so there is no meaning. Don't try to find meaning in your life, just do your best, learn new things, dream, improve, do what you like ... and one day you will find meaning of this.

The meaning of life is to gain understanding as understanding is knowledge, knowledge with out understanding is no knowledge at all.

The purpose of your life should be such that each and every actions you take is congruent with the direction toward which the goal you set out to achieve in your life is waiting. The meaning of life should be to appreciate each and every of these actions while they are taken so that when at the last breath of your life the cumulative effect is at once parallel to the purpose of your life right before the moment of their vanishing.

The purpose of life, is to convert oxygen to carbon dioxide and animal protein and vegetables, to fertilizer. In humans, the process keeps the inner fire burning at 98.6 degrees Fahrenheit. Once maturity is reached, life's purpose is to spread it's seeds, so the the process may continue into new generations, along with any genetic improvements that may have happened along the way.

I like that!

"To be or not to be" that is the question. Shakespeare knew that within the answer, was the meaning of life.

A meaning of life could be to get to death as an old person who has worn out his/her body and mind. Or a meaning of life could be to find something interesting to do until death seeks up on you and takes it away?

The purpose of life is to try to survive and generate data for evolution. The meaning of life is whatever gets you through it.

I seem to be surviving without trying. Well, that's just how it seems right now.

So do I have no purpose because it doesn't feel like I am trying to survive? Just wondering.

If you eat, you are trying to survive.

I eat but it doesn't feel like I am trying to eat. I am only stating how it feels. I cannot see what is more important than how it feels.

If you are surviving without trying that is just great. The fact is you are surviving and therefore generating data. So you are serving a purpose. Even if you do not survive, you still generate some data. Everything serves some purpose as everything generates some data.
