If the BBT is true, then what?

Post by Philosophy Explorer »

Recently direct evidence for the Big Bang was discovered. What does this mean for mankind? Also recently it's been proven that black holes do exist. What does this mean for us? Is there a use for all this information? What does this mean for the universe? What next? The God particle or the multiverse? Where are we headed or where should we head? What say you to this?

What it means is that there is still a lot to learn about the universe. And that we are making progress. And that there is a long way to go. And it is going to be a fascinating journey.

It is gratifying to see our best attempts at modeling reality upheld by new empirical evidence. It boosts our creedence in the exercise of science which is one of the only epistemological paradigms ever created that can modify itself--even reinvent itself--without losing its integrity as a cultural institution. It is also gratifying to know that our universe harbors such phenomena that make for such an incredible cosmic dynamism. There is truly no telling where it will all lead, just as it should be. Forever driven by further mystery, we will always maintain our own dynamism, hopefully armed with tools like the scientific method that are themselves dynamic enough to meet the challenge.

Mathematical modelling appears to be increasingly effective in predicting phenomena. The next projects will be especially exciting: blogs.discovermagazine.com/outthere/201 ... 0SRGFdWiOg

Some say the universe will continue to expand indefinitely. Other speculate that it will reach a maximum, like a lung breathing out, and then begin to collapse within itself, perhaps to start the whole cycle over again. For us on earth, we've only got about another 6 billion years before out Sun dies out, taking us with it.

Hmmm.......Aren't you the one who said the universe has always been and always will be? If so, how can the above statement be true? (sorry if I have misunderstood your past posts)
Things are not always as they appear; it's a matter of perception.

The eyes can only see what the mind has, is, or will be prepared to comprehend.

No, you are right Misty, that is what I believe. The Sun will still be here, only as a dwarf star, once it collapses back into itself. The earth will still be here too, only as a scorched and barren rock. Everything that is here now will always be here, only in different forms.

Water is a good example of changing forms. If you boil water until it disappears, it has changed form but is still present in the atmosphere. When you look at a cloud, it looks a lot different then the water you drink, but it is still water. Ice is yet another form of water, but on the atomic level, it's just one part oxygen and two parts hydrogen.
