Philosophy of Entertainment & Evolution of Virtual Reality
Recently two adolescent girls stabbed and almost killed one of their girlfriends because of an internet character called the 'Slenderman". And I might ask how many other cases like this are occurring? How many women are being raped and/or possibly murdered because 'BDSM" {bondage and sadomasochism} sites are promoting torture [I don't care that some people want some pain but there must be a line that distinguishes it from torture that may be dangerous and harmful} of women for someones sick sense of art and pleasure?
I like erotic art and am not against what some might call pornography - But as virtual reality now becomes more sophisticated I ask you as a civilized human being, should there be limits? "What is the law? Are we not Men?"
And should there be some limits to what is shown and produced as 'entertainment"???

American-style Capitalism replies very enthusiastically in the negative. Why limit profits if there is more money to be made? What a sin it is to leave business opportunities unexploited! And should there be some limits to what is shown and produced as 'entertainment"???
There are many people who will do *anything* for money, and our modern Western culture is a witness to this.
The god of most men is their stomach (greed/appetites).

Intelligent response - I agree with most everything you said. But this is a broad subject and I don't think we can cover it all. So what I'm trying to focus on is the one thing I saw which disturbed even my live and let live somewhat liberal view point. Should it be legal to watch people being 'tortured' for profit? Now I'm not knocking all the BDSM [bondage and sado-masochism} group even though a psychologist might say they are??? But for the most part even though these weird {by normal standards} people are getting some pleasure from inflicting some pain....Some might say 'different strokes for different folks' {pun intended} and some participants will actually describe afterwards why they enjoyed it !?!?!Theophane wrote:American-style Capitalism replies very enthusiastically in the negative. But some of these videos cross a certain line - humans are actually being tortured, not subjected to some pain, but actually torture to an extent where one might wonder if they are incurring physical injury and harm. Forget about censorship, I'm not for that, but shouldn't people be protected from torture for profit, art, or whatever reason ?????
