Why don't we assert in this society elder people the same rights?

Post by SimpleGuy »

I think elder people have lost somehow the basic constitutional rights. How can we assert in philosophy the right for elder people to live in a humane way ?

Uummm... since wealth and power are concentrated at the older age groups you've got an obligation to back up your assertions (perhaps with examples at minimum) not simply imply they are true.

Especially where there is a growing poor community of old people suffering from living below the average minimum for existence.
This is a hoax that your talking of and a pure lie.

'Murrikkka has no ethics, and no time in their insane pursuit of consumables and "More!!!" (tm) ('Murrikkkan motto), and no Heart!
No wonder the elderly are left to rot!
They have, by then, all been sucked dry by the parasites and are no longer useful prey (other than to a few scammers and other thieves)!
There are other countries who treat their wealth of Wisdom quite differently.

Ummmm... what BS Republikkkan propaganda!
What is the real percentages of the wealthy few to the poverty stricken vast majority!
Not all old folks are corrupt government and CEOs!

Even a simpleton knows that there are poor folks of every age group, but it is well known that on average, AS A GROUP, the elderly have more net worth than the young.

And that is how we lie using statistics.
The elderly is not "a group", but individual people.

Well as a group is a well known criterion. As a groug , the then numbers adjacent to the lottery jackpot have in average more money than any other person with a normal income. How does it come that anybody plays lotto and just isn't that well off. Well as a group is according to the mass of the group just with a variation or a median a small criterion to slightly judge the situation. All those people are differnent, but I didn't claim that there are some well off people in the elder generations i simply claimed that the average old person isn't treated equal by the state.

If, by elderly, we are talking people 65 years and older, then a lot of those people have come into an inheritance when their parents died. Plus a lot have worked most of their lives and paid into private pension plans, and finally the government kicks in with an old age pension and Canada pension, if contributions were made. This would seem to indicate that a lot of elderly people are well off or at lest comfortable, but of course, there will always be poor people in all age groups.
Even though you can see me, I might not be here.

Of course. Everyone is an individual. It just happens that the poor amongst the elderly category happen to be members of a group where there are relatively higher numbers of wealthy and powerful individuals than the other age groups. This brings up the question: if you are going to single out subsets of the poor and disenfranchised, why choose the subset that belongs to an overall privileged group?

Sorry, but my (limited) experience denies your assertion.
Go walk into some clinic waiting room and count the "overall privileged group"!
Or the 'Dollar Store'...
Perhaps I'm just not seeing the vast numbers of elderly who can afford their own health care because I do not visit private care doctors offices. Can't afford to.
Perhaps you are correct, but there are no reliable stats to support anyone's experience, just personal experience/Knowledge.

Now, if you want to call the elderly an "overall privileged group" because they are predominately white, that might be another story... *__-

This is a case where one person's experience (perhaps at the Dollar Store) will lead you astray. Look at the big picture. If you are correct, which age group do you think has amassed the greatest wealth? 1-30 year olds? 31-60 year olds? Remember the greatest form of wealth in the US (and likely everywhere) is home equity and retirement savings. How many 40 year olds have paid off their mortgage? Who has more in retirement savings, the guy who has been saving for 15 years (the 40 year old) or the one who has saved for 40 years (the 65 year old)?

Good point though you could shut down the Forum if everyone just Googled: "what is meaning of life?"
