I accept what Wowbagger advises about welfarism's being used as a veil over speciesism, but animal welfare can run concurrently with abolition of speciesism even although the advent of the latter is delayed somewhat by welfarism.


Animal welfarism is incompatible with abolitionism for reasons both moral and practical.

Of course it is, that's pretty much the definition of abolitionism. But we weren't talking about abolitionism, we were talking about how to most effectively achieve something that benefits the animals. And there's no a priori reason why the abolitionist approach does best there. I'm a vegan, but I wouldn't call myself an abolitionist. To me, abolitionists are a bit too ideological, at least the one's I've had discussions with.
