I don't see anything wrong with it, because an earnest question, even if your main aim is to do your philosophy homework, makes me and probably others ask what this means to them---always good for learning. The ball is now in pjkeeley's court to explain his position.

I know you didnt say this, but for the record i didn't ask the question simply to try and complete my homework, im very interested in the subject as a whole and more so in this particular topic. As for the way a philosophy forum should function, i think it should be fine for someone to ask a question for any purpose, as people on here will most likely be able to answer a much more specific question, in much more depth than any other resource on the internet/elsewhere could. Also, any question, if posted for homework or otherwise, will bring a diversity of topics to the forum, which people can expand on and discuss forgetting that the original question was ever asked; so why anyone would want to stop questions being asked on the forum beats me.

So long as that's what you intend, so be it. But the fact that you hadn't made any regular contributions to the forum before this thread, and that all you were asking in this thread was for an answer to a question instead of stimulating some kind of discussion, made it seem like you were just using the forum for your own benefit. As long as that's not what you intended to do, I have no qualms with you asking for help with your homework. Otherwise, you are going about it in the wrong way.Listener wrote:I know you didnt say this, but for the record i didn't ask the question simply to try and complete my homework, im very interested in the subject as a whole and more so in this particular topic. But heck, I'm not the forum police here. All I said was that it annoys me when people ask for help with their homework. Can't you people use Google!?!?

one is about, when you do something, always think of what will happen if everyone does it. It is about thinking of all things we do universally.
another one is about, "man should treat others as ends not as means".
sorry forgot the third
