Either way you sell your soul

Discuss philosophical questions regarding theism (and atheism), and discuss religion as it relates to philosophy. This includes any philosophical discussions that happen to be about god, gods, or a 'higher power' or the belief of them. This also generally includes philosophical topics about organized or ritualistic mysticism or about organized, common or ritualistic beliefs in the existence of supernatural phenomenon.

-1- These men and women who contractually obliged themselves, or "promised" themselves, to a company, have sold their soul.
People market their talents, yes, but that's not the same as selling your soul, although you could consider it so if you sign your rights away - sell your soul to the company role.

Whitedragon, It seems to me you're talking about the deficiencies in parenting and our public educational system. Rather than help children think for themselves and discover their own interests and talents, we are willing to "sell their souls" to society for indoctrination. Rather than know thy self, it's know thy place, what role one may fill in society/industry, which are becoming more and more inseparable.

Yes, Felix, that is so, but the question is, are these ramifications serious enough to say we sell our soul or at the very least to be used as a comparison? Atheists may be the first to accept this definition, since they hold this life is all we have. If our mind is not the most important part of our soul, what is? This is the thing about soul, we want to assign some vague and abstract notion to it and leave it in that sense almost excluded from the rest of our being, but how does the soul interact with its host? These are questions we cannot ignore. IF the soul lives on, it must be that part that carries the identity to its next destination; if it does not, the consequences are even more severe, it means we only have one chance ... here ... one mind, one soul ... and how we treat it defines THIS life, not some speculative afterlife or journey which no one as of yet have proven.
We are a frozen spirit; our thoughts a cloud of droplets; different oceans and ages brood inside – where spirit sublimates. To some our words, an acid rain, to some it is too pure, to some infectious, to some a cure.

God, Heaven, Hades, Angles, and the Soul are all man made concepts that have no basis in reality.

You can not prove that they exist.

But, if you are a believer, I won't be able to change you mind, most likely.

I suggest that you read the following books by Christopher Hitchens:

"god is not Great"
"The Atheist Manifesto"
"The Portable Atheist"

Also read "Beyond Good and Evil" by Friedrich Nietzsche

I have an open invitation to supernatural beings: God, Satan, Jesus, Odin, Mohammed, Allah, anyone.

Knock on my door, convince me you are a supernatural being, come and sit on my couch and have a conversation with me. After that, you can have my soul.

I was an Evangelical Christian for my whole life until 10 years ago...I threw that offer out into the "universe" around that time and no one has knocked on my door yet...except for the JWs and LDSs. I almost took the LDSs up on their offer to visit their temple...those Sisters who came to my door were lovely. :-D
