Is the Toronto Greektown Attack Related to Islam?

Discuss philosophical questions regarding theism (and atheism), and discuss religion as it relates to philosophy. This includes any philosophical discussions that happen to be about god, gods, or a 'higher power' or the belief of them. This also generally includes philosophical topics about organized or ritualistic mysticism or about organized, common or ritualistic beliefs in the existence of supernatural phenomenon.

Is the Toronto Greektown Attack Related to Islam?

Post by Spectrum »

Three people – including the suspected gunman – have died and 13 others have been injured after a lone gunman opened fire along a lively avenue in the Canadian city of Toronto, seemingly shooting at random at pedestrians and into crowded restaurants.

Authorities identified the suspect as Faisal Hussain, 29, of Toronto, who died after an exchange of gunfire with police. It was not immediately clear whether he killed himself or was killed by police.

Police said an 18-year-old woman and a 10-year-old girl, both of them from the Toronto area, were killed in the attack. The 18-year-old was later identified as Reese Fallon. She had graduated high school last month and “was highly regarded by staff and loved by her friends”, Toronto’s mayor, John Tory, said in a statement.

As usual the authorities were quick to deny it has anything to do with terrorism;
No evidence Islamic State responsible for Toronto attack: police

TORONTO/CAIRO (Reuters) - Canadian police said on Wednesday that they had no evidence so far to support claims by the Islamic State militant group that it was responsible for a weekend shooting in Toronto that left two people dead and 13 wounded.

I.S.I.S Nevertheless Claim Responsibility;
BEIRUT - The Islamic State group on Wednesday claimed responsibility for a weekend shooting that killed two people in Canada's Toronto.
The group's propaganda agency Amaq said the attacker was "one of the soldiers of the Islamic State".
"He carried out the attack in response to calls to target nationals of countries of the coalition" fighting IS in Syria and Iraq since 2014, it said.

Apparently the Family issued a statement the attacker Faisal Hussain has a history of mental illness. However this well written statement is suspect as the attacker family do not have the competence to make such a PR quality statement.
"Our son had severe mental health challenges, struggling with psychosis and depression his entire life,”

It was reported Faisal Hussain, a Muslim has visited Pakistan and Afghanistan, plus had visited I.S.I.S sites in the internet.

The various controversies are raised in this video;
Personally I believe the above attack has something to do with Islam even though the attacker was not a direct terrorist operative. I will explain later.
