Humans, like most other animals, like to stake out territory, which they believe to be "mine". Hence, my house or my country. If others infringe on this territory, the fight or flight instinct is invoked. If someone kicks in your front door and starts packing up your tv, you either run or fight back. If one country marches into another, the invaded country either surrenders or fights back.
Wars are the natural result of human nature and for that reason, there will always be wars. Unfortunately, the modern state of weapons makes war risky to the entire human population.
