The Sexualization of Technology (A questionnaire)

Post by WorldThief »

Hello,

I am currently writing an article about the fetishization of technological devices in the modern age. To elaborate: nowadays, technological devices are not merely tools; they are objects which evoke erotic desire. Example 1: the trend among many women of putting their cell phone between their breasts or tucked in the belt line of their pants, so that it is half visible and half concealed, exciting others in the way a hint of lingerie, whether bra or underwear, might've in the past. Example 2: people who habitually masturbate to pornography might feel aroused before they even begin to see images or video, triggered only by the smell of the computer or the feel of the plastic on their hands or the sound of the computer booting up; a kind of 'foreplay' to masturbation which is completely devoid of human elements but which is sexual all the same.

So I have some questions for you. You are free to answer them here in this thread, or if you prefer anonymity, in private message.

1) What technological devices do you find 'sexy'? What do you find sexy about them? Please be specific -- providing contexts, concrete examples, or full anecdotes if you like

2) When we refer to a gadget as 'sexy' does it have a different meaning from referring to a man or woman as 'sexy'? How?

3) Do you ever find yourself aroused from witnessing another person, whether male or female, using technology, such as cell phones, laptops, iPads, etc?

4) Do you ever look at pornography with technological elements? (naked men/women with video game controllers is one common example)

5) Do you ever find yourself aroused by technology completely separate from a human context, such as in Example #2 in my description above?

Thanks a lot for your participation -- it will be very helpful. Unless you request otherwise, if I use your responses, I will invent a false name for you.

2. I think that women take muscular things like mustang cars as being sexy. Vance Packard wrote a book entitled "The Hidden Persuaders" in which he says that some women had orgasms over the word mustang before the ford car was even introduced to the public

1) What technological devices do you find 'sexy'? The toilet plunger and the super-high-voltage transformer station that supplies electricity to the Greater Toronto Area. Oh, and vacuum cleaners. In particular, their hoses.

2) When we refer to a gadget as 'sexy' does it have a different meaning from referring to a man or woman as 'sexy'? How? when I refer to a device as "sexy", then if it's like referring to a man as sexy, it is actually sexy as a woman; and when referring to it as "woman", it is sexy as a pair of spawning salmon fish.

3) Do you ever find yourself aroused from witnessing another person, whether male or female, using technology, such as cell phones, laptops, iPads, etc? I get turned on by seeing naked women working in deplorable conditions in salt mines, using tech devices such as shovels and hovels and novels.

4) Do you ever look at pornography with technological elements? (naked men/women with video game controllers is one common example) I usually use compounds, not just elements. For instance, H3C2O3, or NaSlC32O16H32.

5) Do you ever find yourself aroused by technology completely separate from a human context, such as in Example #2 in my description above? When I change oil in my car, I can't but visualize the happiness of the plungers in the motor engine moving up and down in fresh, slush, munchy new oil in the cyclinders. This does not fill me with arousal, but it gives me a sense of serenity, thoughts of the Soul of the Machine entering the Infinite Joy of Buddha.

Thanks a lot for your participation -- it will be very helpful. Unless you request otherwise, if I use your responses, I will invent a false name for you. You can call me Mr. Universal Joint in Ford Engine V6.

It is an onomatopoeia, and as such, it does conjure up the flexing and tensing of a cord, only to suddenly release it. Like... a... twanggg.
I must... tanggg. Or else I'm going to lose my mind.
Repeat this a hundred times when you are already aroused, and "mustang" will be forever indelibly marked in your mind as a sex symbol.
