What would you say?

Chat about anything your heart desires here, just be civil. Factual or scientific questions about philosophy go here (e.g. "When was Socrates born?"), and so most homework help questions belong here. Note, posts in the off-topic section will not increase new members post counts. This includes the introductions and feedback sections.

What would you say?

If you were an astronaut, and were about to take the first step on to a new planet, what would you say?

I wouldn't think in advance about what I was going to say. I'd let the experience of the moment dictate my words. Then, when I finally stepped onto that planet, it would occur to me what a little step it is from the spacecraft to the planetary surface. But, as I said that, it would occur to me that, metaphorically, although it's only a small step for a man, it's actually a pretty giant leap for mankind.

So I'd probably say something, off the cuff, that encapsulated the essence of that thought. I'm not sure what exactly.

Well, as a woman, and with the memory of Hillary's recent defeat still in my mind, I'd probably say something like, "Well, in 2017 we almost cracked that glass ceiling, but now, in 20xx, we blew the roof to pieces!"

What about "Behold, here walks a man!"

or "Behold, here walks a woman!"

I might be inclined not to say anything. The action says much more than any words could.

I would say "this has been one long fokking ride and so with one small step for man this is another giant step for mankind and womankind."

Hillary was corrupt. Madeline Albright would have been a much better candidate for the DEM's.

Naw Fooloso4 you would say something about Philosophy. Cogito ergo sum or something like that.

I know you. You would not be silent.

Actually I am generally quite taciturn, but since this is a forum the only acts I can rely on are speech acts. In that situation I might feel compelled by others to say something, but my genuine inclination would be not to say anything. I rarely step out of the house, though, so I haven’t given much thought to what I’d say. I’ll leave that to the speech writers.
