Politics, history of... or philosophy of... ?

Chat about anything your heart desires here, just be civil. Factual or scientific questions about philosophy go here (e.g. "When was Socrates born?"), and so most homework help questions belong here. Note, posts in the off-topic section will not increase new members post counts. This includes the introductions and feedback sections.

Fooloso4 and chewybrian - apologies for abrupt last post re moving of Open Yale material to Philosophy of Politics forum.
I acknowledge and appreciate all your comments, encouragement and continuing dialogue which will hopefully continue.
Even if some respond here, rather than at the new place, then so be it.
I simply wanted it to be more accessible and out there - as per reasons already offered.
The risk is that I have killed any enthusiasm stone dead and totally pissed you and others off so that you are less inclined to make your worthwhile contributions.
A great opportunity to practice Stoic indifference...perhaps.

Georgeanna -

In reference to what I said several pages ago (just coming back from hol so have a bit of time now) ...

I have some loose ideas and my own bias as does everyone. In regards to Schilller and others mentioned my interest is pretty much a tangle between the individual and group dynamics - for me the heart of religiosity is about bridging the divide (or rather showing how the divide is merely a repercussion of rational thought) between the objective and subjective perspectives, from group to individual and individual to group (the subjective viewed both fromthe individual and group and the objective viewed from both the individual and thr group - a confusing intermingling within which rational thought struggles to operate.)

Wait, may miss my flight ...

Sorry about that!

To cut to the chase I am of the ilk that finds the Apolline and Dyonysiac (Nietzsche) waxing and waning fascinating and an interesting thing to investigate. Schiller touches on it quite firmly and in the modern climate Jung also pointed out something of a problem with how the 20th century was becoming somewhat stilted and cold mannered.

Given the opposites of individual and group, conservativism and liberalism, I really see something of a disjoint between where and how to apply liberalism and conservativism; my initial view is to lay out the individual, subjective view with the liberal view and the group, objective view with the conservative view. Given that politics is the sphere of “groups” it is up to the individual to act out i day to day life in a liberal manner and to counter this with objective rationalism in a considered and cautious manner - humans being humans it’s messy.

To steal away the term from Eliade, it seems to me the “Heirophany” is the artistic/creative/“religiosity” of human nature that allows these two opposing forces to communicate ... here it gets vague for me because I’m still working on these thoughts that encompass the origins of religion, oral tradition, neuroscience, and Jungian ideas about the unconscious.

On the political perspective it would be best to relate this to the fields of pedagogy and propaganda (hence why I referred to Plato and Aristotle.)

Plane here I’m off!

Tbc ...

Thanks Burning ghost for further explanation although I don't think I am much further forward. Who wouldn't agree with 'humans being humans it's messy.'

I wish you well with :

" I’m still working on these thoughts that encompass the origins of religion, oral tradition, neuroscience, and Jungian ideas about the unconscious."

Are you writing a paper or a book ?

Hope your break refreshed you.
Now it's my turn. Until later...
