Thanks for your post, Greta. It's encouraging. I feel like I've gotten off to a rocky start here, but I still have hopes of finding a good place to exchange thoughtful ideas with people, whether that's here or somewhere else.

I have added the following sentence "Often times posts are cleared from the queue within the day but sometimes it can take up to a week." to the forum rules to clarify the wait time.
My entire political philosophy summed up in one tweet.

"The mind is a wonderful servant but a terrible master."

The problem however is that I cannot reply to certain topics to help increase my post count. What I mean is I have something to say but if the thread is moving right along then after two or three days of waiting for approval my point has either been brought up by another user or no longer will make sense.
I understand your concerns. I genuinely wish I could devote more time to helping members get their posts approved and on their way to being viewed and discussed, but of course work and family must come first.

If it helps allay your concerns, your posts, although perhaps not yet approved, still take their place chronologically in the discussion at the time they were submitted, not after they were approved, so they are still relevant to the discussion in terms of the sequence of the posts. Many members do read back through the posts in order to get a better understanding of the discussion especially when newer posts specifically reference older posts.

I promise you that I am personally doing my best to sort through any posts in the moderation queue in a timely manner. Your patience is appreciated.
Lacewing wrote:A question for the admin and moderators... how would any of you feel about being left in the dark for a week when you're trying to participate in a new forum that interests you?
I can understand your frustrations. I would be frustrated as well in that situation. We do the best we can to keep the flow of ideas moving along, but it is a time consuming process and can be quite challenging depending upon the circumstances. There are aspects to moderating the forums that you may or may not be aware of that can increase the level of time it takes to ensure the continuity and quality of the discussions on the forums.
Greta wrote:Now it feels like the pendulum has finished swinging and I feel settled into a fairly peaceful, steady state on the forum. It took a while to get used to the unusual processes here that, as Scott said, are designed to keep conversations relevant and decent with hot topics that are close to our most closely-held beliefs (aka overarching algorithms).
Thanks for your contributions Greta.

Hey guys, This post was very helpful. I'm a new comer and was becoming a little concerned about the absents of the posts I had written. Not, by any means, to magnify there importance. But rather, to be able to look back and study them. I understand the level of sophistication that is adhered to in this site and have no intention of disregarding the laws it was built on. However, it would be nice even though the posts don't make it to the forums right away, to have them in the "posts" thumb so that even if they were not admitted we could then have the opportunity to fix the mistakes made and repost them in the forums.

And also, if I may be so bold, to ask if you would please email me my previous posts for that same reason and also for personal introspection and study. It would be very much appreciated. Assuming they have not passed inspection and for that reason will never be posted. :D

Thanks so much, Dustin

You should be sent a email notice when the posts are approved or disapproved. If disapproved, the disapproved post will be included in the email notice.

Very interesting rules you have here indeed!

As a newcomer, I will have to say that the process-to-post here has reasonable hurdles in a world of trolls and meaningless memes. This process isn't cold exclusivity, it's determinative of intellectual character based on the out-put of the user; Based on cognitive reasoning and a set screening process that encourages contemplative and sympathetic arguments.

I'm sure this site would be overwhelmed if such safeguards were not in place, and I see nothing but rewarding, quality conversations as a direct result.

Ah-ha...now I understand why my posts have not appeared. I somehow missed the fine print about the 5 post before public rule. It might be a good idea to make this clear in the confirmation e-mail you send when someone newly joins.

Good idea. I have added the following to the welcome email:
Please make sure to read the forum rules fully before posting. We have a very unique community dedicated to openly discussing even the most controversial topics but to that end we have some strict rules such as no personal attacks. The forum rules also contain some important procedural information, such as the fact that your first few posts will be held for moderation before being publicly displayed.

As a newbie this site is very frustrating!! I am trying to build my posts so I can have a profile and become a fully fledged member but the constant restrictions are annoying. My last post was deemed to be not 'correct' for some reason? It seems fine to me?

The filter warning should have advised you to contact me, if you believe your post was being blocked in error, by copying and pasting the content of the post. There is no other way to investigate.

ALOPIALL wrote:I completely understand the need to approve users so that someone who is a little upset can't fire bomb the site however the issue I am having right now is that on my journey to attain five posts in order to become a full fledged member I am meeting resistance.

I can understand that people have lives, even moderators and the admin and so two days to approve my post while frustrating is not something worth getting upset about. The problem however is that I cannot reply to certain topics to help increase my post count. What I mean is I have something to say but if the thread is moving right along then after two or three days of waiting for approval my point has either been brought up by another user or no longer will make sense.

So in order to make my five post count I have to carefully select topics which is incredibly time consuming and annoying. I'm doing it anyways but I just thought I would throw in my two cents.
These are some good and well-overthought ideas which you brought up. I came up with an idea how we can tackle this problem as moderators and I sent my idea to Scott. Thanks for bringing up this issue, this criticism helps us moderators and administrators to improve the usability of this forum.

I also opened a topic about this in the moderator section in which I quoted your post so that I and other moderators and administrators too can discuss this issue.
