Changing subject in reply
Changing subject in reply
I can't find any description of what happens if you change the subject when "replying" to a thread (this may just be failing eyesight, though!). Does changing the subject start a new topic, or a sub-thread, or merely give your post a sub-title in the existing thread? I don't want to start experimenting in case it produces unexpected results.
The idea of having 'sub-threads' with a page that lists them for a particular topic might be good, if the system doesn't do this already. This would bring one of the advantages of an email list to the forum (the header can easily be changed in an email discussion list, with no loss of continuity, it would be seen by all participants so far, and it makes the content easily identifiable).
Having sub-threads would help new readers understand and navigate around some of the very large topics. It would make it easier to differentiate sub-threads that are related but not off-topic. If a sub-thread does become very off-topic, it might be easier to separate it out into a new topic. It might also make it easier to rescue decent content or maintain valid ongoing discussions if you have to blitz a thread for rule violations.
A full-blown sub-thread management system would be nice. But if that is not viable, could you please point me to (or provide) a description of what happens when you reply with a different subject and how subsequent replies are then treated.

THIS IS A NEW SUBJECT

I believe spiritual freedom (a.k.a. self-discipline) manifests as bravery, confidence, grace, honesty, love, and inner peace.
Re: THIS IS A NEW SUBJECT
Thanks, that's very helpful. It does provide a way to establish sub-threads, though not reliably because someone might then reply without using the "Quote" function. I'm not even sure my sub-threads idea would address that issue, unless there was a drop-down box on the (non-quote) reply to choose an active sub-thread. Thanks, again.Scott wrote:It only changes the subject line of that actual post. I think if someone where to hit quote as the way to reply to the reply with a changed subject than their reply's default subject would also be the new one. To demonstrate, I have changed the subject of this reply to THIS IS A NEW SUBJECT.
