Problem when quoting an entire post

Post by Belinda »

Regarding Grumpy's topic Is "What is God?" a better question than "Does God exist?"? in the Religion and Myth section I want to study Grumpy's post#27 and answer it with the entire copy in front of me on the reply form. The problem is that lists don't copy as lists and the copied format is very difficult to study. I was wondering if it would be possible to arrange the website so that quoted posts could be copied onto the reply form in the same concrete style as the author made them in.

I tend to agree. Specifically I'm not interested in copying the post for studying, but have the post present to study and if I want to copy any portions or all of it onto my reply post, then I should be able to do so.

Belinda,

If your computer OS allows (such as Windows 7), you could open a new browser window and split the screen (attach each window to either side of the screen), or you could copy and paste the original post text back into the response window (not quite as good) or if you have a recent version of Mac OS you can "two finger slide" back and forth from the previous page of original text to your response window.

Good luck.

Thanks Spiral Out. I will get someone here at home to help me to implement your advice.

Yes, for what you are asking, I think the best bet is to find the most convenient workaround to study the original post while writing your own post in a different window/tab. One trick I use to use was to actually write my posts in my computer's word processor and then copy and paste them once I was ready to post. That also helped preserve the posts if the browser crashed, allowed offline saving, and provided spelling and grammar checking before such features were so common in browsers. It would also help you keep the post in it's published format on one screen while you can write the post in a different window/tab on your computer.
My entire political philosophy summed up in one tweet.

"The mind is a wonderful servant but a terrible master."

I believe spiritual freedom (a.k.a. self-discipline) manifests as bravery, confidence, grace, honesty, love, and inner peace.
