THIS IS WHAT HAPPENS WITH NO MODERATORS

Post by nameless »

Without the self-respect to have a moderator, the forum falls prey to these sub-human spam a$$holes that have infected the site. Doesnt't take long to render the site 'dead'. This one is on the last gasp;
leaving it to the (subhuman) spam viruses (may they (you?)all die painfully and slowly.. very)!
Too bad...

Almost all the spam has been deleted. The rest will be deleted. I will be moderating the forum regularly, but please see the Volunteer Moderators Needed thread.

Thanks,
Scott

this spam is getting nuts.

may I suggest one of those scrambled image things as part of the registration process to make sure robots aren't signing up as members...its seems like a massive number of the new members are robots and or personal advertisements...(largely they are the culprits so it seems to me) or start issuing warnings via email, to new members who appear to simply be advertising.

again if you need help with spamkilling I'm more than happy to. I've emailed an pm'd...scott, but I guess you're rather busy so perhaps this will be more reliable, sorry. if I'm not up to par for the job, just let me know, I wont be offended. I just see a problem and want to fix it, rather than just notify and complain.

I've practically lived here since I joined, so I'd catch a lot of spam before many even have the chance to be bothered by it.

It's called a CAPTCHA. The forum has that feature, but I do not bother to enable it because the spam bots have cracked it. All of the mods that I have tried using a image CAPTCHA have been cracked by many of the spam bots.

I have now hand-edited some of the PHP files on the forums and created a unique security question that should stop almost all the spam bots.

If any of you notice any more spam that appears to have been posted by a bot, please PM me the URL of the thread.

I will also be working harder on personally reviewing all posts made on the forums, and hand deleting any spam or other posts that break the philosophy forum rules. I ask all of you to help me by PMing me the URL of any posts you see that break the rules.

Thanks,
Scott

Thanks wanabe!

If possible, I would prefer if you PMed me with the information of any posts that violate the forum rules. That way, we won't disrupt the forums even more, and if there is a disagreement between members, the members won't be each publicly accusing each other of violating the rules.

Thanks again,
Scott
