My apologies, I will have to defer to Scott on this question. I do not know if there are messaging restrictions for new members.

Indeed, at this time, users with a post count less than 5 cannot send PMs. This is to prevent spammers or abusive users to register new accounts solely for the purpose of sending spam or abusive PMs, which would go unnoticed until a victim reports it and the account is deleted.

The classification used is the same one as the moderation queue. Until you have 5 approved on-topic posts, you cannot send PMs and any new posts on the forum you make will be held in a moderation queue until approved by a moderator.

Scott, will you allow me to contribute to the forums? I have moved on from all the nonsense. Cheers, Stormcloud

Hi,

How long before my posts are approved by a moderator? They seem to have disappeared into a black hole. I posted two in 2013, and about 4 or 5 in the last few days.

I know people can be busy etc, but just curious as to whether I should wait and see, or keep posting.

Okay. Seems I must do 5 decent posts. Will add some shortly.

Hi, Making lots of posts in the hopes of doing the right thing. No feedback so it feels like talking to myself. I suppose it discourages anyone but determined contributors. This feels like another post into the void....

Thanks. Finally up and running. It would seem that my posts appear on the date they were posted. If there are many posts after that date, the approved post is not viewed as recent. Still this is a good forum, so I will stick with it for a while.

Is there a limit on edits? Seems like I lost my edit privileges after editing a few times.

I believe that editing is limited to within a certain period of time after the post was submitted. I'm not sure what that timeframe is though. Perhaps the site admin can clarify.

Your rules state that one should not post something like "I agree". While I respect your decision, I would suggest a "like" button if it is possible? Everyone wants to be appreciated. And sometimes, someone says something which seems so profound you just HAVE to say something to appreciate it. So I would request you to please either consider withdrawing your rule or finding out some way to allow us to appreciate a post.

I said this before when the idea of a "like" button was proposed last time and I'll say it again now: I am absolutely opposed to the idea of anything resembling a "like" button being implemented under any circumstances. I think it would seriously degrade the quality of this site.

This site is not meant to be a popularity contest. This is a quality philosophy site and has no need or use for such things.

I would cancel my account immediately upon the event of a "like" button appearing on this site.

It was just a suggestion. If you are so vehemently opposed to the idea, let it go. But then the rule against saying something like "I agree" should be re-considered.

I understand Vijay. It's been suggested before. I am obviously extremely opposed to such a feature on this site.

Simply posting "I agree" adds nothing to the topic. Clicking on a "like" button also adds nothing to the topic, and turns it into some type of popularity contest with no ultimate goal. It would be pointless.

Greetings. I'm having a bit of a problem with the Correct Spelling feature. And the Punctuation control. (I agree whole-heartedly with the Proofreading, but the rest..) It's cramping me. I am asking if you could lifted them both, in my case. Ok. I, "who am I!?!", am asking a lot. My first Post responce, "What is Art?" should give you an idea. I think creatively,.. and originally. I hope this could justify my 'freedom'. I thank you, for the consideration. Gallagher Hayes

I feel similarly. It does seem a bit juvenile to just "like" & not explain why.

BTW, SpiralOut, you rock! (I hope that's in line with the rules. ;) ). Seriously, I appreciate, you and others who help this forum along.
