Thanks Newme!

This is an intelligently designed site (except for the emoticons) and I'd be disappointed to see it simply mimic other less intuitive sites and their questionable features.

Hi

For the life of me, I cant figure out how to do quotes properly. If I press the quote button on the top right of a post then that whole post appears with a very nice "X said" icon at the top, but I would like to know how do I quote just a small part of a post eg a line or two and keep the nice clean look thats added by the icon. When I try it seems to just then go in to a more functional mode of writing "[Quote]" etc.

Thank you

Make your quote then delete what you don't want to appear.

Hello Lucylu,

Simply highlight the specific text you wish to quote then click the (❝QUOTE) button in the top right corner. (this is what I've done in quoting the passage above from your post)

Oh I see, thank you! I was highlighting then going into reply box and pressing 'quote'. I'm not sure what that one is for then but I guess I don't need to know now.

Thanks for that!

Yes, my apologies, I missed a few steps.

You must first click the (POST REPLY↙) button then scroll down to the post you wish to quote then highlight the specific text you wish to quote then click the (❝QUOTE) button and then the selected text will appear in the text box for your reply.

Also, please be sure to click the "Preview" button when finished with your reply to make sure the post will appear as expected and required.

Thank you.

Hi

Im having trouble finding a picture for the 'avatar' which is less than 150/150 pixels. I have pictures but they are all too big. Is there a way of minimising a picture or do I have to find something that is 150/150?

thank you

Which operating system are you using?

Well, I'm pretty sure its Windows Vista. I have now managed to work out how to get my picture down to under 150x150, but instead of minimising the whole picture, it just takes a small section from the top left corner which is obviously not what I want.

I can type fast but otherwise I'm just not very good with computers so I may just have to leave it. Its not the end of the world! If you have any ideas they would be warmly received, otherwise, not to worry.

Thanks

Open the image in the MS Paint program. Follow the instructions Here. (Scroll down the page to the "Resize the whole picture" instructions.)

The instructions are for Windows 7 so the controls may be slightly different for Windows Vista. You may have to use the "sketch/skew" function if there's no Resize button.

Or you could send the picture to me and I can resize it for you.

Thank you. I'd send you an emoticon but I know you hate them!

I've tried the link you sent but I don't seem to have (or be able to find) the 'maintain aspect' part that I would need.

I'm not sure how I would send to you? How do I do a private message or otherwise? I have tried to go in to the search menu of the internal message thing and put in your name but it didn't come up with anything.

Its not like my picture's anything special- just the eye of a peacock feather- I thought it would be a nice mix of nature and consciousness.

So that means you have the older version of MS Paint. You'll have to use the "sketch/skew" function and it should automatically maintain the height:width ratio when you change the size of one or the other. I would change the larger dimension to 150 pixels and the smaller dimension should automatically adjust to maintain the aspect ratio.

Save the file as a JPEG since it is the smallest file size with the best image quality. It may show some artifacting if the original file is a BMP (bitmap) which is a relatively large file size but has better color and resolution.

You could post the image link from the site where you found it and I could grab it, edit it and email it to you.

Its like watching Bambie learn to walk, I'm sure, but for me its very exciting. Sketch and skew, sketch and skew...

Thank you x
