Re: Topics Now Require Approval
Of course this is your forum and you can change it if you want, but this change in requiring topics to get approved by subjectively biased moderators is degrading the forum experience, IMO.
Roel,
I did not mention donations - you did.

There is no such change. That has always been the policy.Newme wrote:[...] but this change in requiring topics to get approved by subjectively biased moderators [...]
The change is when the moderators moderate the topic, not if. The policy change is about whether or not a topic is held and deleted before ever being public or--the old way--deleted by the moderator after it was displayed publicly for a short while and other members may have wasted their time replying to a rule-breaking topic.

Re: Topics Now Require Approval
Ehm, we don't delete topics because of the content and us not liking certain content. Maybe another mod doesn't, but I always explain why I disapprove a topic and I tell people how they can get it approved. I have a question. Would you like to see unwanted advertising in new topics? Because we moderators disapprove those topics, you can enjoy philosophy discussions without annoying, unwanted advertising. And believe me, some people even try to advertise their products here in topics. I accept topics of atheists and christians as long as they are in line with the forum rules.Newme wrote:Scott,

Of course, if I am temporarily moderated for bad behaviour, that would have been good to know, since I don't know what specific crime I have committed (or, more accurately, been caught committing).

I have changed the message to reflect that all new topics are held for moderation (except for premium members).Neopolitan wrote:Can someone update the message about moderation after submitting a new topic? It comes up saying that I either have too few posts or am temporarily moderated for bad behaviour (which doesn't seem to be the case since my posts to an existing thread get through without a delay).

If one is new member with less than a certain number of a approved posts or is put on the moderation queue for violation of the forum rules, then that member's replies are also held for moderation.

I don't understand the question. The syntax seems off.Okisites wrote:What do you admin and moderators think about so many old and new members having a problem with your system? Do you think that your system is bad or there opinion about your system is wrong?

Well Sir, you know my English is somewhat wrong(I hope so) and I am thankful to you for allowing me in your site.Scott wrote:I don't understand the question. Here I mean to say, so many old and new members see some problem in your system.
You seem to see no problem in your system.
So whether you(you and moderators) or members are correct?
I hope you got it now.

Re: Topics Now Require Approval
In any case, there are over thirty-five thousand members. I doubt there will ever be something about the site or about the way I run the site with which none of all thirty-five thousand will find a problem. Moreover, just because person A prefers option X and person B prefers option Y doesn't mean either person is "wrong". Some things are subjective and/or relative to one's own desires.

Well, I got it now actually. I thought it is all about correctness, rightness and the likes.Scott wrote:This topic is about the change to require all topics by members (except premium members) to be held for moderation. Is that what you mean by "[my] system"?

Please take note, that I personally don't have any problem with that.
Thank you for clarification. Okisites

Re: Topics Now Require Approval
I am making this post in response to a message I got recently saying that my thread "Why are there sadistic serial killers?" was disapproved. I have faith in this thread, and I think it will produce some interesting discussion. The moderator disapproved the thread because it allegedly was too autobiographical in nature. I have to respectfully and strongly disagree. I referred to my own feelings and interests in the thread as a means to introducing the topic, not as a divergence from the topic. I think the disapproval of my thread was biased and unfair. I think it is likely that if other moderators read the thread, they may very well come to a very different conclusion than the person who disapproved my thread. I would like to have a second opinion for approval of my thread. Thank you.

Sir, would you like to respond to my replies in you thread "How do you feel about vengeance?" ? If not, what problem you have to engage in discussion with poster, in that topic of yours?Scott wrote:This post is in violation of numerous parts of Procedure for Complaining about Moderator Actions.
