There is no edit button so you need to edit carefully before posting.

You seems assuming that human beings are infallible [I guess you will admit that it is not true.]

Why Forum administrators do not admit the shortcoming of their software [or the shortsightedness of their policy] and apologise, instead of insulting many intelligent, knowledgeable and responsible users [who can't avoid even minor typing mistakes but seems deliberate] in this Forum?

Sorry, your answer is very unhelpful.

Mods do not have influence in this area. I've tagged Scott, the site's owner, so if he is available he might explain the policy.

I always saw it as a challenge to work harder on my editing rather than an insult (after all, being given access to a free forum in which one can share ideas is hardly an insult). Still, I agree it's a tough call because editing onscreen is more difficult than with hardcopy; editors and lawyers almost always print material out for review.

There was an editing function when I was here years ago, which I miss. Perhaps Scott could explain why he removed it.

If we say something we regret, it is there permanently unless Mod deletes our post.

We can always make addendum to what we've stated, just not make it disappear. Only a mod can do that.

I was disheartened at first, but now I see a cosmic fairness, in that the individual poster not being able to edit, can only add addendum's to our comments.

It is a little like we cannot take back what we say, we can only say were sorry, or whatever to make corrections, amends or ask forgiveness or whatever.

You can send a PM to a mod and request that a post you made be removed.

Not that I ever asked a mod to delete one of my posts before I became a mod, despite regretting some posts. It never occurred to me to ask.

How do I write absolutely brilliant ground breaking history making posts that are wildly celebrated by my fellow members and the entire academic elite without me doing any work or thinking or typing? Where is that button, I can't find it ANYWHERE!!

I make a lot of English mistakes (I'm getting better though, at least that's what I think XD), sometimes I see them after posting the thread...
Did Scottanswered to this? I would like to edit my posts.

Hi, if you are not ready to permanently publish what you have written, and still wish to edit it. Please click the 'save as draft' button in the full editor.

Clicking the 'submit' button must be looked at like having your article published in a print newspaper or magazine. It needs to be your final draft, very well proofread.

This website is not meant to be your average web forum. There's a million of those, plus Facebook and such. This is meant to a place for an exceptional form of online communication and pleasurable debate.

You cannot edit after posting so be careful, I have made this mistake with misspelled words and grammatical issues, but it is the way of the website. You must persevere and continue your message - this is the only way.

May I suggest an "edit" forum visible only to members? No reply to the contents would be permitted but only edit suggestions. All posts would be deleted automatically after a given time period?

I do not have a problem about editing my post because there is a program that automatically edits my posts and I can make the necessary corrections when it prompts me of the mistake. I don't know how I got this program. I just see my mistakes underlined in red and makes me know it is a mistake with the options to correct it in spelling or grammar or wrong word used. But sometimes my post is not published for a reason mostly out of topic. it is alright with me. I try anyway. I like to post and pray it will be approved and posted by the moderator.

Thanks for posting my comment. Maybe it will encourage others to post their comments. The best thing to do is edit as you write to make sure everything is ok.

I have seen a compromise between the two positions in other forums. Having a short time window between when a user can edit their posts. 10-30 min maybe.
