Thread Deletion
I’ve tried emailing you on this problem four times and each time I end up in the outbox. So let me try this way as advised for dealing with problems with mods
The “A Safe Space’ was addressed to you hoping you would respond with some witty remark about not having safe spaces on Philosophy Forums.
Please remember, the forum rules require posts to be on-topic and strictly prohibit personal attacks or any rude off-topic remarks. If you see any, please report them. If you have any questions or comments about the rules, please explain them in the Feedback Section.
Greta posts a nasty ad hom attack on my imagined motives soon to be followed by another ad hom attack on Simone Weil by Alec.
I am perfectly willing to begin a thread on the idea of safe spaces in universities in General Philosophy but first I must insist that the safe space thread be deleted in respect to me, the philosophical question being raised, and in order for me to continue on this site in good faith. If these points are not worth a deletion of the thread and its two ad hom posts then I know I don’t belong
Scott, just delete the thread an I’ll begin another.
Thanks
Nick

I 'm not Scott but one of the moderators. I had to look for your topic and found it here: onlinephilosophyclub.com/forums/viewtop ... mp;t=14370
Just like Scott I like your sense of humour and I think that Greta closed it because of the board where you posted it, if you had posted it in a more relaxed board, not a serious one, it could have stayed open I guess.
I get the point of your post, which implies criticism of oversensitivity by members to unusual ideas, but I would just rephrase your topic without the humour for that. Great sense of humour btw, I like how you connected these university safe places to this forum.

The philosophical sense concerns the relationship between philosophy, censorship, and indoctrination. I don't see how anyone cannot understand this. What does this have to do with me condemning anyone on this site? Scott knows it gives him a good opportunity to discuss the open mind as opposed to this currently fashionable trend of turning college kids into "snowflakes" too pure to be exposed to unapproved ideas. Deleting the thread is proof that the attack on this idea was wrong and deleted. Not to do so means it is condoned. So I left the choice open to Scott. This topic makes no philosophical point and is just a thinly veiled complaint about other members who do not share the OP's beliefs.

Maybe Greta misunderstood what you were referring to. What do you mean with it gives Scott a good opportunity to discuss the open mind?Nick_A wrote:No Roe, Greta wrote: Locked.Roel wrote:Hi Nick,

Re: Thread Deletion
Scott runs a philosophy forum. It isn't for money but because he believes a venue for the polite discussion of ideas is a good thing to do for furthering the opening of minds to different qualities of ideas. I call schools institutions of child abuse when their effect is to close minds. My guess is that when it occurs, Scott finds that as repulsive as I do so why not give him the opportunity to express his opinion.Roel wrote:Maybe Greta misunderstood what you were referring to. Yes, ok. And you want to ask him about Gretas moderation action? Maybe if you rephrase your topic and are more clear there is no problem with it.Nick_A wrote:Scott runs a philosophy forum. Re: Thread Deletion
It isn't a matter of questioning Greta. The situation is clearly obvious. The point is if a blatant attack on me which goes against the rules of the forum should be condoned. If it is, I want no part of it. If the thread remains than I go. If the thread is deleted then I remain. It is that simple. Would you remain on a forum if its management openly supports ad hom attacks against you? Unless you're making good money on the forum, you wouldn't bother. It is supposed to be enjoyable and provide a mind stretch. If it just serves to sanction attacks against what one doesn't understand, why remain?Roel wrote:Yes, ok. Re: Thread Deletion
I have blocked you. Not because I dont agree with you, but simply because you seem to be unable to understand what is being said against your points.
I block people because they are unable to construct anything meaningful for me to understand, meaning lack of reason or general use of obscure and sophistical language, and intangible analogies. I also make judgements based on the knowledge presented.
The latter is more forgivable in my eyes.
Hope this is of some use to you and that you don't see it as an "attack".
Even when I block people I still go back and check to see if they are more in tune with what I consider to be reasonable discourse than I have found in the past. If you feel they are attacking you block them and report. In my experience it is quite futile to bamg your head against a wall of opposition. A small break helps ease tensions and
possibly helps parties reflect upon what may or may not have caused such offense.
Some people are just sadly not worth the effort for numerous reasons and hinder you more than others would.

Did you first flagged the attacking post using the flag button above the post?
It seems to me that it's only one post you want to see removed and not the whole thread.

BG, the following is either true or untrue. I came here to get away from all the sleazy cheap stuff on another site. Now I’ll find it here after reading the following
Philosophy Forums
An internet oasis of open discussion without personal attacks
My philosophy begins with the premise for the human condition living in imagination as described in Plato’s cave allegory. Everything follows from this premise. I know it is offensive and I can see why it would turn you off. My ideas are not original but come from minds whose intelligence far exceeds yours and mine.
You are turned off by them. This is OK. We’re not married. This thread concerns a personal attack. It is either condoned or eliminated
I’m well aware that the premise of the fallen human condition is one of the most offensive concepts a person can endure until they personally experience its reality. But there is a minority who are open to the experience and I learn from these people. So if you are annoyed it is OK as long as there are others who are not.“Whenever you find yourself on the side of the majority, it is time to pause and reflect.” - Mark Twain

Re: Thread Deletion
For what little its worth I will remove my "foe" and follow my own advice since its been months since I foed you.
I am very happy to discuss differing interpretations of Plato and The Republic.
I do remember that some of what you have said struck a cord with me, but a lot also seemed more like unfounded speculation. The Cave Analogy is a very vivid and interesting picture of how we view thtis thing called "reality".

Re: Thread Deletion
The thread consists of three posts two of which are blatant attacks. The thread must be removed. It doesn't make sense at this point to unlock it and just leave Scott's reply which would be taken out of context. Since Scott feels the topic is important I'll gladly write it again for General Philosophy leaving Philosophy Forums out of it and concentrate on child abuse happening now in universities of indoctrination. But first: delete the obnoxious thing!Empiricist-Bruno wrote:Nick_A,

Just recreate it with different phrasing, I think the subject you try to tackle is interesting enough.Nick_A wrote:The thread consists of three posts two of which are blatant attacks. Thanks for standing by forum rules and doing the right thing. It is very much appreciated. I just posted a thread on "Safe Spaces" in General Philosophy. It has yet to be approved. When it is I'll let you know.Scott wrote:Hi,
