How long a lag between post violation report and mod action?

I wonder how long a lag there is between reporting post for gravely violating the rules, and actual action of following up the report?
If there is already a description with regard to the time required for follow up, please direct me to that passage in the rules, by hopefully publishing the URL in this thread that links to it, and maybe quoting the appropriate paragraph. Thanks.
I know it's Christmas, so maybe the lag is even laggier.

It depends on when an administrator is online to deal with your report, moderators can't deal with reports.

The moderators are all volunteers. How long it takes depends on the volume of rule-breaking posts and posts awaiting volume versus what availability the volunteer moderators have to generously offer. I'm sorry for any wait.

Does the same rule apply to reviews of proposed new topics?
If yes, how does a forum user distinguish between knowing his proposal for a forum topic has been rejected, or else knowing that it just hasn't been looked at?
I hate being in limbo. If I am not notified of having proposed topics rejected, then I stay in limbo. It's like being in purgatory forever, because there had been a reorg and your existence there had been forgotten.

@Renee An email should be sent out to you when your topic is approved or disapproved. If disapproved, a reason should be given in the email.

I gave up sending out the emails, Scott. Too many people were hassling me and it was quadrupling the workload. If people are interested in more than their own words then they will check back in and find out if their posts have been approved then.
Of course, if Renee or others have an interest in paying me, say, $800 a week for mod services, I will provide a much more prompt and professional service :)

@Greta I'm not sure what you mean about giving up on sending the emails. The emails should be sent automatically, no?
I think there is a checkbox to override the automatic sending of email notifications if that's what you mean.

How about publishing a message which simply states that mods will not be able to discuss their editing decisions with posters due to time and budget constraints etc. That would be better than giving the impression such discussions are available, but then responses vary depending on the mood and whims of various mods at various times etc.
