Approval time for posts

Post Number:#1  Postby Maxcady10001 » October 19th, 2017, 3:44 pm

I understand I am a new member, but why does the approval for posts(specifically within topics) sometimes take more than ten hours? I can't be a part of any conversation, as my response doesn't appear for a long time, and when it does appear, it does so in between already made comments and is easily ignored since it is not where recent posts are.

It is because sometimes I have the odd compulsion to have a life and to sleep. Unpaid mods pitch in on a voluntary basis and it seems that they too sometimes have the need to have a life. When I go on holidays the delay for new members can be for several days. At present the approvals are humming along as quickly as they have ever been done.

As this is the 20th post, will my posts no longer be held for moderation?

Okay, now that these have been approved, let's see how, or if, the system is working. If not, I'll get on to Scott about it and see where he is up to.

Greta
Once I have over 20 approved posts will my posts no longer be held for moderation? If so could you possibly approve the posts I made last night under the "Lying as a necessity" and "Uncontacted tribes" topics, so I can participate in discussions on the site.
Also a philosophy question: can you explain the difference between ontology and epistemology ( in the simplest possible way)?

Theoretically, yes Max. I saw those posts up for approval, and approved them. It's possible that the forum's algorithms are wonky (please pardon tech jargon). If so then, Scott, the site owner, is the one with the capacity, and he is so busy having a life that he's become something akin to the Scarlett Pimpernell. So old dopey here (ie. me) is holding the baby, with about as much clue of "child care" as a pot-addled pregnant teenager.

Re: your question, ontology is about what actually exists in reality, eg. Kant's noumena. By contrast, epistemology is about how we can perceive and understand those things (or not), and so it concerns that which affects the accuracy of our perceptions, such as our sensory and cognitive limitations and biases. I hope this helps in lieu of more academic types perhaps pitching in on the question.

If there is no joy with the approvals situation in the next few days I will see if that infernal Pimpernel can be tracked down :)

Than you, I couldn't get a clear understanding of ontology and epistemology from any definition I found.

The system works! I did not have to approve that post :)
