The Reason for Locking Threads : It’s all good!
1) Firstly the aim is NOT to “shut down” discussions. It is the exact opposite!
2) Some threads tend to get so long that people new to the thread repeat what has already been said (thus a 20 page boundary is a reasonable area to start to think about summing up the points made in preparation for how the discussion will continue - of course some threads inevitably go on and on and are better left alone - such as “introductions” for newbies.)
3) I will post my intent to LOCK a thread.
4) I will ALWAYS provide a new thread that leads on from the last - or someone else can and inform me - so that EVERYONE can see where the discussion has led from and where it led to. I would greatly appreciate it if the original OP member is not present for others to make a summary of the arguments presented either to continue the discusson in the fresh thread and/or provide a spin-off if felt necessary - Note: ALL threads will have links from and to the original thread.
5) I am also considering providing links between curretn existing threads with a common theme/topic. One example of this would be to provide links to threads about certain philosophers or areas of philosophy. We already have the categories of Philosophy of Science, Ethics and such, so think of this as a further ease of reference between the threads in, and across, these sub forums.
6) NOTHING WILL BE DELETED!!
7) The down side is people may feel a little like they’re being “shut down” but the pluses seem to me to outweigh the minuses. I am not a tyrant (yet!) so if people feel like I am acting out of pure self interest rather than helping the forum then PM me and/or Greta and demand my head be chopped off!
I will not be bothered by insults sent my way nor will I be doing that kind of “policing” on the forum. I’m essentially an anarchist in that particular category and would rather people choose to act with civility (most of the time) than be forced to do so disengenuously.
9) I can be a hypocrite so please remind me when I am being so I can attend to my darker side
10) MOST IMPORTANT TO ME! (And helpful). PM me rather than post complaints in the threads because I’ll just shift them to this forum anyway.
Why am I doing this? Becasue I believe it is better to do something rather than nothing. I want a better forum not a worse one.

Also, if you wish some topics to be given links in the OP then let me know and I’ll see what I ca do.

It is not always better to do something rather than nothing.

There are more moderators than you and Greta. Fooloso4 for example.
I have used the Feedback forum to leave my current opinion on what I consider immoderate moderation.

I don't think this is the MOST IMPORTANT THING. And it's not all about you.
Nor is it helpful for there to be a hidden PM conversation if there are serious concerns about your moderation.
I don't know what the forum rules are but this seems to be very personal and certainly not good advice.
The Feedback forum is the appropriate place, as far as I am concerned.

I think that this 'letting you know and you'll see what you can do' re links in the OP is an unnecessary link in the control chain.Burning ghost wrote: ↑September 26th, 2018, 3:00 am Note: Threads CAN easily be unlocked so if there is any serious protest about any thread being locked the action can be reversed. And to repeat, this shouldn’t ever happen without warning.

If you were to be consistent and follow your own rules.
You already said that:
'ALL locked threads...will have links provided in OP and last post to the next/previous thread/s - hopefully with a small summary provided by participants if and where possible.'
The latter would be good practice. Shame it wasn't applied in the latest locked 'Off Topic' thread.

How dismissive and uninformative.
Please provide link, thank you.
