I posted the thread to discuss the May book of the month, Stumbling on Happiness. If you have not already read it, get it and do. Then discuss it in the thread.

We have made a deal for June and July to do political books. For June we will be doing the radical right-wing book Liberty and Tyranny and for July we will do the radical left-wing book Globalize Liberation. No matter where you fall on any political spectrum, this is a great chance for all of us to be open-minded and read two different political books. Please read both. I think after reading and discussing both books we will find all of our political philosophies have a lot more in common than we realize. I'm excited!

A lot is going on at the Philosophy Forums. I remember the days when we could barely keep the spam off the forums. Wow, we've come a long way. I've started investing in an advertising campaign for the forums, so we will probably see some more new members joining. We're going to be stepping up our moderation of the forums to step up the quality of the discussions. For one thing, we are going to enforce the rules requiring members to use correct spelling and grammar. All members must proof-read their posts. The other moderators and I will delete posts that are clearly not being proof-read.
Please help us out. Proof-read your posts before posting them. Also, if you haven't already, check out these two articles: How to Have Productive Philosophical Conversations and The Need for Concision and Clarity on the Philosophy Forums
Anyway, thanks so much for being a member of the forums!
Thanks,
Scott

All we ask is that members proof-read posts and use a spelling and grammar checker. If it is clear that a member did not proof-read a post. It will be deleted and the member will be warned.nameless wrote:A shame! For many, english is not a primary language. I think that the echoes of jackbooted grammer and spelling Nazis tend to inhibit free thought and expression. I'd think that as long as one desires to understand, and can understand, that would be suifficient. Anal retentiveness is a poor presence on a site such as a philosophy forum.
Usually, it is very easy to tell when someone is trying and when someone is not. Usually it is very easy to tell when a poster is proof-reading and when they are not. If a poster is not good at spelling and grammar, then the poster needs to use a spelling and grammar checker to assist in the proof-reading process.
Thanks,
Scott
