To add a YouTube video to your post, first you must copy and paste the video's URL, which is shown in the gray box on the upper-left side of the YouTube page where the video is shown. Make sure to copy the "URL" field, not the "Embed" field. Second, paste just that URL in between YouTube tags: [yid=PUT VIDEO ID HERE[/tid] Finally, make sure to use the preview feature to check that your post will display correctly before posting it.
Let me show you an example. To post the following video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UQBWGo7pef8
Use the following code:
Code: Select all
[yid=UQBWGo7pef8][/yid]
Please note, 90% of the time if you want to post a video, it belongs in the off-topic section. In the rare cases that a video could be part of a philosophical thread, it is against the forum rules to just post the video and ask for responses (see #10). You must post some of your own thoughts about the video, and every topic (in the on-topic parts for the forum) must contain some sort of philosophical argument or question in your own words, not just quoted or linked to. (For an example, check out this thread I made based on the video above. Namely, you can see how it contains more than just a video, how it is philosophical, and how a reader could still participate in the thread without watching the video.)
Also, posting a video or a link to a video as a reply in one of the on-topic philosophical sections of the forum is often not acceptable. People usually start threads to have discussions, not to be given a list of videos to watch.
Finally, please try to avoid posting more than one video or more than one link to videos in the same post. Users generally don't want to sift through lists of videos to be able to participate fully in a thread.
Thanks! Scott
