Take two, what is your intention for this forum?

Post by Pachomius »

Dear Scott, owner of this forum:

I am trying to get to your forum rules but on clicking the link you provided, it returned no rules but this website:

http://www.hostican.com/

Then when I tried to post a reply, it again returned that website.

From that point onward when I clicked on any link in your forum, that website appeared.

Something has invaded your website.

What I did was to go to another tabbed copy of my browser, GreenBrowser, and was able to get to your forum and got rid of that website.

Tell us how to get to your forum rules.

Also tell us something about yourself, the lone owner I presume?

And please tell us that this website and forum will not suddenly without notice much less ceremonies disappear without a trace, so that one morning when I click on my bookmark to launch it on my monitor screen, I see nothing but instead a message appears indicating that it does not exist.

Sorry about that. One of my websites overloaded the server resources and the host automatically blocked access for a little bit. As far as I can tell, it is fine now.

You can see the forum rules now.

This website isn't going anywhere. But every website has outages.

About me, my interests include philosophy, reading, and politics.

About this site, as it says on the introduction message: "These are great forums for philosophers, philosophy students and anyone else interested in philosophy. Philosophical debate is encouraged, but we require that members remain civil and refrain from personal attacks or insults."

Thanks,
Scott
My entire political philosophy summed up in one tweet.

"The mind is a wonderful servant but a terrible master."

I believe spiritual freedom (a.k.a. self-discipline) manifests as bravery, confidence, grace, honesty, love, and inner peace.

I am still curious about your plans and expectations.

If you expect to earn money with this website, I accept that as a most legitimate objective.

That said, are you interested intimately with what people like myself have to say which they think is philosophy?

That is a curiosity from your part which I accept completely as perfectly legitimate.

Do you have the idea of advancing the cause of philosophical inquiry in people like myself? and hope to improve our kind and manner of inquiry and exchange?

I am sure you are spending your own money to maintain this website and the forum, allow me to commend you most sincerely.

If you expect to obtain materials like ideas different from what you already are familiar with, which can be of any use to any undertaking you are engaged in, like for example writing a thesis or dissertation for an academic degree, I can accept that also most heartily.

I just hope that when you have attained your goal, you will continue to host this website and really make it one that is dedicated to free thought and free speech in re philosophy -- if for no other reason than that you enjoy reading the opinions of people like myself on philosophical matters.

I cannot imagine any scenario where I wouldn't want to have this forum. I plan to keep these forums for many, many years to come. And hopefully they will become better and better as time goes on.

I love getting suggestions from the members on ways to improve the forums.

Some goals I have:
-start a philosophy book club on the forums
-publish collections of philosophy articles (written by members of the forums) as ebooks

Also, I have speculated about one day:
-having a philosophy chat room
-philosophy movie club

Thanks,
Scott

What has happened to Scott?

Post by Dewey »

This forum appears to be without a monitor. Witness the pathetic contamination posted by Cavaire that's not being purged.

Does anyone know what's going on?

To Dewey:

Did you mean VOLAIRE or CAVAIRE.

I did witness the pathetic contamination by CAVAIRE.

Hopefully it will be purged. It has no place here, despite his/her attempts.

Re: 'the pathetic contamination':
This is from Pachomius on Jan 12 this year:One time, I asked Richard Rich why he did not intervene at all or almost never, he told me that people who are not civilized will leave the forum sooner than later, and to keep intervening is a form of being dictatorial to the suppression of free inquiry and free speech, and you might as well join the Nazis or the erstwhile Soviet Communists if you have that kind of a mentality. (I take no responsibility for what looks like a parapaphrase, nonetheless it is probably true of both the above moderator ;and uncivilised posters).

The pornographer has so far as I know posted legal porn . I worry that she might post illegal porn , in which case I would perhaps be liable to prosecution for downloading it, however unintentionally. I hope that The Philosophy Club has an automatic ban on illegal porn.Is there such a possibility? Is there one here?

No porn is allowed on the forum at all. I just hadn't been going through all the posts lately. I apologize. I will do a better job moderating the forum. I think I have deleted all the offending posts.

Most of the spam bots attempted posts are automatically blocked. The ones you guys see are the small few that get through, even if it seems like a lot.

If anyone wants to volunteer to be a moderator, send me a PM.

Thanks,
Scott
