Forum colour

Post by lifegazer »

Hello Scott. I wondered whether there was even the possibility of changing the colour-background of the forums. To be honest, I think the grey looks quite dismal and unwelcoming.
Of course, that's just my opinion. I wondered if you had any thoughts on the matter?

What color would you suggest I use instead of gray in the parts that are currently gray?

If I modify the template of the forum, I will most likely make it blend in with the layout of the rest of the site.
My entire political philosophy summed up in one tweet.

"The mind is a wonderful servant but a terrible master."

I believe spiritual freedom (a.k.a. self-discipline) manifests as bravery, confidence, grace, honesty, love, and inner peace.

There should be a few skins(editable by individual users), But I think it would be energy efficient if more stuff was black see www.blackle.com for what I mean.

I think the color scheme is fine, it says "business"(be professional while being philosophical) to me.

That blue is a nice colour (on the link). I also think scarlet would work. But these are details that could be pondered later - I just wondered if you would consider changing the background.

If most people were to buy a home that was decorated grey/gray, nearly all of them would change the colour of the decor, because grey is a bit dismal and unwelcoming, as I said. I've never heard anyone say that their favourite colour was grey.

I can see what wannabe means when he says that it gives an impression of 'business', but I don't think that many people are going to be fooled into believing that this site must be of high intellectual quality, just because it's grey.

Anyway, maybe you could think it over, or maybe try another poll. I just thought I'd air my opinion.

I like wannabe's suggestion: "There should be a few skins(editable by individual users)"

I like the idea of light blue or light violet.

lifgazer, color scheme is not meant to fool its meant as a symbol, which you seem to agree with. Now of course it doesn't mean that things will be all business; but that is the thing we are working for; so gray is an apt color.

I know some one whose favorite color is gray, even if it is out of vanity.

There is "Board Style:" for the profile settings, but changing it didn't seem to do any thing for me.

Why don't we use teal or tan for the background rather than yes, this dismal gray?
I'd appreciate adding griggsy to rationalist -rationalist griggsy. And I'd appreciate getting new messages @ [email protected]
I surely appreciate the caution against personal attacks as they take away from what we are trying to achieve- a great philosophical site, not blowing of steem!

I didn't say that I agreed. I just understood your point of view about associating grey with 'business', which might - to a few people - make this forum look like a serious quality site, on the face of it.
But it could also have the reverse effect, because many people are put off by dry, technical, cold 'business-like' philosophy (have you tried reading Kant, for instance!).

The bottom-line is that most people like to be surrounded by colour. And I think that the same applies when we are staring at a screen too. Otherwise, black & white (mainly grey/gray) television would still be popular!

I suppose the ideal solution would be for the individual to be able to choose his/her own colour scheme, but I expect that's way too complicated and too much to ask.
