I have deleted several users for spam. But almost all of them would be bots (i.e. not actual humans, but automated computer programs that post links and ads in forums). Their posts and accounts were completely deleted.
I believe in giving real people warnings and letting them change. Usually, if someone gets a few of their posts deleted because the posts break the rules, then that person will either start following the rules or stop posting all together. Why would they waste their time writing posts that will be deleted?
I have only used the ban for 1 member that I can remember. That's because this member completely ignored PMs sent to him by Dewey and me. I temporarily banned him to get him to acknowledge the email I sent him. The reply I finally got was, "What do I look like? Your bitch?"
Needless to say, I consider that matter settled. But I highly doubt that is who you are concerned about. Please PM me the actual username of the user.
"The mind is a wonderful servant but a terrible master."
I believe spiritual freedom (a.k.a. self-discipline) manifests as bravery, confidence, grace, honesty, love, and inner peace.

Hum, good manners is an important quality to have. Politely and rationally responding to communications is what good manners are about. Ignoring a communication is bad manners. Politely and rationally responding to communications is empowering, and ignoring them is disempowering.Scott wrote:

Some people have to learn the hard way. Having a chance to redeem oneself is perhaps an important part of that learning process? Jesus said something about not throwing stones, unless one is innocent of no wrong.
I think banning someone is a hard decision to make. When I owned a discussion group, I did ban a person who insisted on being offensive and everyone wanted banned. Like the question about prisons- some people need to separated from everyone else.
