Why are they prohibited now? Does the prohibition mean that if I insert a link to or quote from Wikipedia my post will be disallowed?

Wikipedia links are disallowed in the on-topic part of the forum because Wikipedia is not a credible source. It is also against the forum rules to tell someone to 'go Google something.' Here is the new site policies regarding link and URLs.

It isn't a credible source. It isn't an academic source. Post a link to Wikipedia is like posting a link to Google and telling someone to go research something. I'm not saying Wikipedia and Google aren't useful starting places for someone to do their own research. But telling someone to go research something is not allowed. The other post to which I already linked in my previous post explains all of this and in more detail.
