I dream of brevity
It occurred to me that a thread where there was a word limit on posts might be beneficial, encouraging people to be concise, or to try to say more with less (I'm sure Nietzsche would advocate this).
I doubt this will be done. I guess I just thought I'd throw this stone into the pond, see what others think.

I don't see how a word limit solves the problem you're describing. Can you be more specific about the problem? Is it this...Mark J Windle wrote:I'm new here. Having read through several threads it seems to me that often the original theme can become lost and the conversations can descend into chaos, with all kinds of perespectives and ideas bouncing off each other, which makes for rather clunky reading, especially if you're new to the thread.

One problem I think should be solved is the idea of quoting an entire post and only saying one sentence in reply. Much of the post could have been cut out and nothing of value would be lost. This doesn't need to be a rule that is enforced programmatically. It could be another item to go in the guidelines -- so when a poster does it, somebody could quote the new guidelines for the poster.
