Why do I have to vote before I get to the topic.

I want to get to the topic that I am interest in reading not in voting for anything.

Dear all

I'd just like to say thank you for considering my book for book of the month. Indeed, the book came close to winning the poll. :D (But only close! :( ). I hope you enjoy the book you did pick.

Yours

I would be excited to participate in a discussion of a book of the month, but it would be good to have some classical texts among the options -- texts from authors like Aristotle, Kant, Leibniz, Heidegger, etc. It would be a good way for non-academics to become acquainted with classical thinkers. My advice (if worth anything) would be to select books that people will remember having read years from now. But perhaps I am wrong...

Choosing a work by any of the particular authors you mention would be to put a lot on people's plates! For in the case of at least many books by those philosophers, just interpreting (let alone assessing) the text tends to be very difficult. But perhaps you could do short pieces (and perhaps these sorts of things have been discussed already on the site - in which case, apologies!).

Which book did you choose? Have you started yet?
