Greetings, and good cheer: Introduction
I'm 40ish give or take some years, and read philosophy and literature with a passion for the Germans and the Greeks. I love to continue to learn, always thirsty to fill-in the timeline of history in my mind, hear how others think about texts, and help people who seek to learn. I strive for clarity and thoroughness when reading and thinking.
I am particularly interested in metaethics, but also epistemology, idealism, linguistics (especially translation theory), mathematics and logic, and aesthetics (especially music). I'm hoping to find nourishing discussion about thinkers like Bloch, Adorno, Derrida, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer, Kant, Lessing, ...so many...
I like to think about how thinkers influence authors, and how authors influence cultures. I have read modern European authors extensively and have studied the ancient Greeks closely.
My hobbies and other interests are all over the place. I live rurally, but I love the cities. I like to hike mountains, program computers, play music, be nice to earthlings. I love things like math, baseball, and the study of narrative history. I have recently begun my annual re-read of Joyce's Ulysses; I'll be looking in particular at Nietzschean themes this year.
It's worth mentioning that I have been drawn to read philosophy since my earliest years; I began trying to understand Kant in the 5th grade, and my interest in thinking hasn't slowed since.
My good cheer to all -- thanks for having me!
