Berthold
My name is Berthold, in actual fact its my surname but I see it is fitting as most philosophers are refered to by their surnames.
I am a resident of South Africa and am of Anglo- Germanic decent. Within my thirty years of existence I have only physically encountered one other Philosopher like myself.
For the first 25 years of my existence, I lived and breathed Philosophy and based my Guidance class teachings on my rational analyses on Psychology, Self- Help books, personal experiences, and of course Philosophy but having suffered a nervous breakdown upon the realization that we cannot live life by our own views and beliefs but rather those that are prescribed to us by a society that does not change considerably rendering my academic achievements and interests in Philosophy and Psychology pretty much worthless.
I had unknowingly deceived both my students as well as myself. Furthermore, based on the insight that how we are treated is largely based on how other humans view our behaviour based upon the conditioning which they have received and cannot look beyond this. As a result, I tend to view other human beings as more machine- like. Morality and ethics are perverted to their own coercisve ends not too dissimilar to an advanced Chess Program.
I would love to meet any other surviving South African or Thai Philosophers sparsely scattered throughout the land or in Thailand when I go overseas next month.

Do you mean lucky as an instance of good fortune or an occurrence against probability?Aristocles wrote:Seems a bit lucky to have found oneBerthold wrote:I have only physically encountered one other Philosopher like myself.

"Surviving"? Are they being systematically exterminated in those countries? Have seen no mention of this in the news....I would love to meet any other surviving South African or Thai Philosophers sparsely scattered throughout the land or in Thailand when I go overseas next month.

South African and Thai philosophy are notoriously demanding and many students of them do not survive the ordeal of practicing them.Felix wrote:
