Re: The Maddening howls of a higher or lower lunacy.
Welcome. Just out of curiosity, what was your original profession and your later business?Dissimulation wrote:Hello philosophy forum and hello to you (yes, you) the individual reading this introduction. Historically I have avoided forums regarding any subject given the non-nonsensical dialogue and dull trolling that I have observed. A brief history, I optimistically developed an interest in philosophy as a teenager, to be candid I had little understanding of the texts that I read and like many in many modern western 'educational' institutions I quoted and argued with absolute ignorance ( Your average anguished teen with a Nietzsche text in hand). I pursued a BA in philosophy with disinterest, the courses were lacking as was any semblance of passion. My disinterest and in conjunction with alcohol and a campus full of beautiful women my efforts lacked genuine effort. In reflection I am discouraged that with such little understanding I graduated with honors and went on to complete a Masters degree in political science with amateur effort. After 6 years of 'Higher education' I accepted a position related to my field, decent pay, benefits and upward mobility. I was miserable. The culmination of my experiences and the immediacy of the past-present created an unintentional condition that instilled a passion in me, the content, significance and intricacies are recognizable to me and requires no further elucidation. I experience a joyful intensity working out ideas and arguments, this joyful intensity is akin to the passion I once felt boxing - This reference is lacking for I lack the words to articulate myself, but unlike boxing the wounds sustained in this pursuit cut much deeper and the purse that much greater. I quit my job, started my own company and in a normative way found myself passionately drawn to the authentic education of affirming life as only I can as individual. The last 3 years has been a wholly individualistic pursuit , is it safe to assume you too have recognized or experienced the difficulties that such dialogue creates among those without an enduring interest? ( and yet how quick they are to engage). This forum may provide, well a forum for discussion, argument and understanding, hopefully free from all the dogmas and social conventions (perhaps allowing me to recognize my own). I look forward to conversing/sparing, In 3 years I have yet to have the opportunity to discuss my thoughts with the other, if only to dismiss the notion that my interest, thoughts and words are not (exclusively) 'the maddening howls of a higher (or lower) lunacy'.

Welcome to the site. You'll be coming and going, I predict, between getting disgusted with having to argue fruitlessly with imbeciles, or with smart or not-so-smart religious nuts, and with egomaniacs who, after recognizing your brain power, will needle you and try to drown you in saliva. You will leave, but will come back, because the outside world is even bleaker. My mother had come from an extremely rich land owner family in the lowlands, and after I was born, the third of their children, she decided she was a lady again and she quit her job and spent all her free time playing with me. My sister and my brother were busy readying themselves for their careers and married lives, so they would gorge down dinner, and run out again. To the library, to the discotheque. I, on the other hand, had long sessions of existentialist angst already, far surpassing my tender age. I argued with my father that there is no free will, that there is no purpose to life, that there is no way in hell I will clean up my room. Then I would go back to my room to read something or to daydream about how I'd be masturbating after I got older.
But there will be the occasional success experience and ensuing endorphin rush.
Enjoy, enjoy.

To which subset do you belong, just out of curiosity?-1- wrote:Dissimulation, your life story reminds me a bit of my own. As express'd in this excerpt from an autobiographical short story I wrote:

The site's policy do not permit me to meaningfully answer your query.LuckyR wrote: To which subset do you belong, just out of curiosity?
Sorry. I don't make the rules. I just follow them.
Plus, I am sorry to need to correct myself, the list I provided (which was highlighted in red) was not exhaustive. There are more types of groupable respondents than what I listed. The list is far from complete. I knew that the list was not complete when I wrote the list. I somehow assumed people would assume I did not mean it as complete. However, that was a wrong assumption by me, I admit to that.
It is not backpedalling now, but explaining the plain bad planning on my part how my opinion would come across when I put it like that.
I stand corrected by myself. My bad. Thanks, LuckyR, for making me to admit to my mistake, because due to your valid criticism I could clear up the obvious misunderstanding I caused.
-- Updated 2017 April 8th, 7:22 am to add the following --
LuckyR, you and I remind myself of an old Hungarian humorous short story. An ancient Greek Superhero, of Homer, has been tasked to tell a modern-day Hungarian poet that his poem does not make sense. The poet (displayed as a formidable monster, without any details, but with the physical strength of the Minotaur) and the Hero wrestle, and the Hero has the Monster-poet in this painful hold, and that painful hold, as in wrestling, and the poet still would not admit that his poetry is nonsense. Finally, the hero, with a single swing of his mace, signs the name of a different poet to the bottom of the poet's creation, and the Monster-poet screams: "Yes, this is nonsense!!" The Hero gathers up the Monster, and carries him to the court of the king who tasked the Hero to defeat the Monster.
Here, you were the Hero, and I was the Monster-Poet... I decried every user in this forum, indiscriminately... until you, LuckyR, the Hero, with one single swing of the mace, showed me that I am part of the community... so I capitulated and admitted was wrong and did a turn-about in my opinion.
Congratulations, LuckyR. Well done. You earned the hand of the King's daughter and half his kingdom. (A motif in Hungarian fairy tales.)

The Monarch normally also had a gay son. The hero had his pick.Dissimulation wrote:I understood what you were communicating...keep the kingdom but does the king have another daughter ?
