Hope this is fruitful.
I joined this group because I hope that I can reach more people and toss ideas back and forth, but also try to learn new things in the process. I think I have a very unique and novel approach to philosophy, combining cultural indexing and linguistics along with psychology.
If I have to put a label on things in order that you may get a better grasp of what sort of thinker I am, then I can only list my influences and what I oppose.
In other words, I do not ascribe to a particular ideology.
My biggest influences (although not sources upon which I believe or rely) are: [in no particular order] Anaximander, Diogenes of Sinope, Laozi, Dogen, Slavoj Zizek, Alan Watts, Joseph D'Maistre, Louis Bonald, and Nietzsche.
I reject the following ideologies: Stoicism, Hedonism, Humanism, Rationalism or Empiracism, Liberalism. I also reject Industrialism, Capitalism, and their offspring, socialism and communism.
If I believe anything at all, it is that modern society is nihilistic and irredeemably deluded.
I also believe in the principle of inter-dependence and non-dualism.
Politically, I believe that industrialism is the end of all true culture, and all things which led to industrialism are degenerate.
Capitalism is unsustainable and the consumer society will drain away.
Therefore, in a "meta" sense, i'm not actually very worried. So don't take my language as being too serious or harsh.
I believe in the benefit of community and harmonious living.

That sounds like a lot of rejection. Do you cherry pick the pearls within each discipline or reject huge swathes in toto?Sigalius Myricantur wrote:Hello all, I'm Sig. I have been an aficionado of philosophy since I was very young. I'm a pretty intense autodidact, and have dabbled in hard and soft sciences a great deal. Most of my attention, though, goes to fields in the humanities. But my true interests and specialties lie are in history of religion, comparative religion, philology, cultural modeling and the psychology of ideas.

If you reject them all completely then there is nothing left. What exactly are your views?
Do reject competition? Social cooperation? Do you think taxes are a bad idea and that we should all look after number one.
Don't take this too harshly I guess you see the contradictions, no doubt due to your brief intro. Look forward to hearing what you have to say.

I like the poetry of this. Sounds like it could be a line from a Gilbert & Sullivan Opera operetta.I reject the following ideologies: Stoicism, Hedonism, Humanism, Rationalism or Empiracism, Liberalism. I also reject Industrialism, Capitalism, and their offspring, socialism and communism.
